Even bridges and roads still in operation are having names changed if they were once named for former heroes now frowned upon.
One that comes to mind is the Stand Watie Memorial Bridge and Highway in Eastern Oklahoma. Used to be a Cherokee hero now a dud because he was also a Brigadier general in the Confederate army, and the last to cease fighting. He united the tribes in Oklahoma to the Southern Cause in the Civil War.

Well the bridge is considered a part of the interstate highway system so it’s kind of federal responsibility to rebuild it. It usually was 90% fed 10% state. Maybe it will be altered by the shipping company’s insurance.

My husband worked at one of those schools that got their names changed - from “Braves” to “Patriots.”
Even with a very tight budget (they claimed) - the money appeared to scrape the name off the gym floor, change out the scoreboard, change over all the stationary - cost 10s of thousands I was told. Money couldn’t have been better spent, right?
I had a Brave sweatshirt for years that I wore all over town - got lots of thumbs up and positive comments from people.
I did too, lots of great minds, apparently. I thought it would be named for an illegal alien, since “they built America”.
