The only way to know if EVs are going to be successful is to let the free markets tell us. Government subsidies create an imbalance and make otherwise bad ideas look good. Subsidies put a thumb on the scale.

Building an electric highway is a risky idea until EVs have proven themselves in the unsubsidized markets. And as yet, there are no unsubsidized EV markets to tell us the truth.

All that said, Ford, GM, Mercedes, BMW are pulling back their ambitious plans for EVs. Perhaps they know something that Indiana doesn't.

“Indiana to build highway able to charge electric vehicles while moving”

Indiana Jones? Or one of many with the name “Indiana” (consummated while in Indiana)

OH! Indiana TAXPAYERS! Wait... a “highway project”?

FEDERAL! We will ALL pay.

Just another nail in the coffin of our Republic.

EVs, NO ONE WANTS THEM. We are energy efficient and an EXPORTER of energy. (thank you Donald Trump). We don’t NEED EVs.

What EV is going to haul my 34 ft RV? (and how far if it even could haul it?)

They are going to FORCE us into EVs, electric EVERYTHING stoves, dryers, water heaters, furnaces, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, cars, trucks, busses, trains, airplanes, ships, and whatever I forgot.

WHERE IS THE ELECTRICITY GOING TO COME FROM?

Solar panels? FAIL

Wind farms? FAIL

What electric grid can handle this new load?

NOT OURS!

We could build a new power grid including nuclear power plants.

How many BILLIONS or TRILLIONS would that cost?

HOW LONG would it take to build it?

DECADES!

They are SERIES.

Who would be behind all this madness?

“I’m not saying it’s aliens, but it’s aliens”

The embeded in the road charging cable system creates a magnetic field, and a device in the vehicle picks up the magnetic field and transforms it back to electricity. I think they’ve shown you are not going to get a electricity charge walking on the pavement.

Well, the Indiana residents will be paying dearly for electricity, it the legislature is stupid enough to approve this.

Anyone living in Indiana should immediately move.

...wireless charging.

Doesn't sound healthy.

I wonder about the level of EMF radiation.

"Indiana to build highway able to charge electric vehicles while moving"

How much copper does that require and how much more weight does the receiver add to a vehicle?

I assume it’s inductive charging. Could be a good idea for one lane on major roads if EV become real popular. I wonder how much cancer that high an inductive field would cause. Continuous CT scan level fields or would it be more like MRI.

"It will cost billions and billions... and be a colossal failure. Watch."

The electrical outlet will be cheap, but it's the 30-mile-long extension cord that you'll have to reconnect every 30 miles or less, that will cost a fortune.

It will not be built at all, there is no real intent to built it, but a whole lot of money will be spent.

Meanwhile in the real world, the Democrats are deliberately sabotaging the grid. To save the planet, see? Why do you hate the planet? /snicker

A simple solution...We need to replace 574,948 miles of roadways in the U.S. to make EVs more practical.
