I know LA Times, and this article is from almost a year ago, but bringing back the liberal 60's term "reactionary", looks like they are desperate.

Flame away.

It was the “Tea Party” before it was “MAGA”. Its people wanting basic responsibility and not corruption in our government—and who do not want to be targeted, lied about, and punished for suggesting it.

Hysterical. Love the part where the writer makes a big deal out of one individual with a sign in his yard dissing Reagan.

“A former Trump administration official who penned a scathing anti-Trump op-ed and book under the pen name “Anonymous” revealed himself Wednesday as a former chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security.

The official, Miles Taylor, said in a tweet six days before election day that Donald Trump is “a man without character” and “it’s time for everyone to step out of the shadows.”

Taylor has been an outspoken critic of Trump’s in recent months and had repeatedly denied he was the author of the column — even to colleagues at CNN, where he has a contributor contract. He left the Trump administration in June and endorsed Democrat Joe Biden for president this summer.

In a statement, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany called Taylor a “low-level, disgruntled former staffer” who “is a liar and a coward who chose anonymity over action and leaking over leading.””

This about the author. Maybe he needs to feel important.

This article reminds me of the Trump meme. “It you they are after, I’m just in the way.” We are all just a basket full of deplorables.

MAGA movement is pretty moderate all things considered. I suppose compared to Trotskyite Neocons it’s far right

He is pretty weak in defining the threat, but he did include the obligatory Hitler comparison down the page.

If there is a threat, and I think ought to be, it is from people who tired of government, including Taylor’s “rational Republicans,” constantly lying to them about everything and showing no interest in acting in the best interest of the country and the American people. If there is a threat, and I think there ought to be, it was not created by Trump. It was created by government at every level that does whatever it pleases and has become the adversary of the rights and well-being of Americans. A people worthy of liberty should embrace the word “threat” proudly.

“Populism — in almost all of its historical iterations — tends toward authoritarianism,” Ribble told me.

Bull excrement.

The opposite of populism is elitism, the ideology that asserts the governed are not qualified to choose political leaders from among their ranks and that the only legitimate political leaders come from an entitled, hereditary political class.

The elitists are the authoritarians.

“But what will actually propel such a figure into the White House is the transformation of the GOP base.”

The GOP base has NOT ‘transformed’. They were hesitant when Reagan tried Amnesty and outright HATED IT when Bush Jr. tried to do the same, and that was NEARLY 20 YEARS AGO. In between that, they really liked Perot pointing out the damage that Globalism was doing to the country.

What transformed is that the GOP business interests DIVERGED from the GOP base, mainly on immigration, but now going around the world starting wars, and with some of those wars being EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

And so the GOP Leadership had to choose, do they stick with the business interests that want mass immigration (for cheap labor), Globalism (for cheap products), and wars (for more ‘hardware’ sales), or do they stick with the base.

The GOP Leadership figured that the base was too stupid to realize that the GOP Leadership made the WRONG CHOICE...and now they pay.

They are realizing that increasing numbers of right wingers have decided that the system is so corrupt that extreme measures may be needed.

To make fools like this writer think Republicans no longer like Reagan.

We’ve only seen the beginning of Trumpism. The rational faction of the GOP has been put down by the radical one and is no longer a check on the system. The disgraced ex-president may return to power. Meanwhile, the conditions are right for the next Trump to emerge. Worse still for our democracy, when he or she enters the White House, the rest of democracy’s guardrails will be weaker than ever.

Democrats are a threat to democracy.

But what will actually propel such a figure into the White House is the transformation of the GOP base.

We have not transformed, we just got sick of being lied to by the GOP. So we decided to take over and elected a general who will fight for what we always wanted.
