Robinette Hood: Here’s How Biden’s EV Agenda Will Take From The Poor And Give To The Rich
Daily Caller News Foundation ^ | April 08, 2024 | Nick Pope

Joe Biden’s massive electric vehicle (EV) agenda will subsidize the lifestyles of America’s well-to-do while hitting average people the hardest....

The Biden administration is aggressively regulating the U.S. auto market to drastically increase the proportion of EVs sold over the coming decade, but consumer demand has not taken off as quickly as proponents had projected despite the subsidies made available by Biden’s flagship climate bill, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Manufacturers are slashing prices of their EVs to make the vehicles more appealing to consumers, which will increase prices for internal combustion engine (ICE) cars to compensate; this dynamic will only pick up speed and infect the used-car market favored by lower-income consumers as the administration’s stringent regulations kick in over time...

EVs benefit from direct subsidies, such as the IRA’s $7,500 consumer tax credit, but they also will increasingly benefit from a hidden cross-subsidy whereby manufacturers drop their prices and offset those losses by boosting prices of ICE vehicles,...

“As the mandated market share of EVs grows, the number of ICE vehicle sales must shrink. A decreasing number of ICE vehicle sales would have to prop up an increasing number of EV sales. The price hike per ICE vehicle would have to increase to offset losses on the ever-larger volume EVs sold,” Marlo Lewis, a senior fellow for the Competitive Enterprise Institute, told the DCNF. “Used cars compete with new cars for customers. If new car prices rise, so will used car prices. Even with generous federal, state, and manufacturer incentives, EVs cost thousands of dollars more than comparable ICE vehicles, and millions of middle-income households are already priced out of the market for new vehicles.”

The Biden administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have each promulgated major emissions or fuel economy regulations designed to effectively require massive increases in the number of EVs sold in the 2030s. Despite these regulations and massive federal spending intended to help advance EV production and demand, American manufacturers are losing billions of dollars on their EV product lines.

....

These losses are poised to kick off a chain of second-order consequences on the auto market that will disadvantage lower-income consumers whose needs are especially not well-suited by EVs, O.H. Skinner, the executive director of the Alliance for Consumers, told the DCNF. Democrats set aside billions of dollars to help build out a national EV charging network in the bipartisan infrastructure package of 2021, but those funds have so far only led to a handful of charging stations coming online across the country while “range anxiety” remains a very real concern for consumers.

One of the most pernicious effects of the EV agenda is the skyrocketing cost of many traditional models. When D.C. and California elites fixate on wiping away the majority of the cars on the market, it distorts the market — the cars that people want are in shorter and shorter supply, leading to higher prices and requiring consumers to pay over list price to snag what is available, while the market is flooded with EVs that consumers aren’t interested in, even at steep discounts,” Skinner told the DCNF. “And this will roll forward into the used market as well, as the same shortages flow through for years, hurting those who most need affordable cars that meet their family needs.”

...

The used vehicle market is significantly larger than the market for new cars.

In 2022, approximately 38.6 million used vehicles were sold, compared to 13.6 million brand new vehicles

...

The regressive impacts of the administration’s EV agenda stand at odds with much of its rhetoric on its broader environmental agenda, which broadly seeks to promote climate policy and social justice at the same time.

Halt! Halt!

Gentlemen, ladies, bring out your valuables please. Come along sir, come along. Come along, madam, come along. Oh, is that all you’ve got ... well, he’s got much more than you ... so you’d better have some of his ... (transfers money from one passenger to another, dropping some)... sorry... pick them up in a moment... there’s about oh, what, nine down there... so you must have about... oh, he’s still got lots... oh you’ve got what? ... you’ve got more than he started with... so if I give you some of those (transferring more coins) ... well now, look ... have you got a bit of jewellery? If I give you that one and you have some of his coins (the credits start, superimposed) ... is that another box? Were you trying to hide it? Well, that’s nice! Right! Now. I’ve got a tiara ... you’ve got one... you’ve got one of the boxes... you’ve got one... anyone else got a tiara? Take your hat off! (passenger does so to reveal a tiara)... Oh, honestly, it’s absolutely pointless trying to do this if you’re going to cheat. It really is awful of you;..

EVs are NOT a zero-sum game, they are a NEGATIVE-sum game...they will take from both poor and people like me.

There is an old saying, that, “There is no such thing as a free cat”.

Even if these battery EVs were to be given away practically for free, the cost of owning one is horrendous, both in its impact on the environment (which is GREATLY misrepresented), but on its effect on the economy as well. There is no infrastructure to support the increase in numbers of these vehicles, either in terms of electric power generation, or in numbers of charging stations to serve the existing numbers of EVs. The demands for the raw materials to manufacture the millions of lithium-ion battery arrays will surely escalate the cost of acquiring the additional supply to stratospheric levels, if the supply chains can be kept open at all. The man-hours spent while waiting for the batteries to recharge, and the incidental effects on both the vehicles and the charging stations of a rapid charge is likely to produce some spectacular fire outbreaks at huge cost just to restore service, and destruction of surrounding construction.

EVs powered by a lithium-ion battery array are a dead-end, both economically and from an engineering standpoint. The market is already totally saturated. And there is virtually no secondary market for used EVs.

“EVs powered by a lithium-ion battery array are a dead-end, both economically and from an engineering standpoint. The market is already totally saturated. And there is virtually no secondary market for used EVs.”

Used Model 3 are going for 25,000 today I just looked at Carmax. I have a lease on a Model 3 LR it’s SIX times cheaper per mile every mile to drive vs the identically sized S60 that’s now sitting in the stable of vehicles in my steel building. 93 octane was $4.09 today if I paid for retail electricity it would cost me 8 cents per kWh I don’t I have paid off solar panels on my roofs plural. So 13 cents per mile vs 2 cents per mile if I paid for power I don’t I sell power to grid everyday. The cost to charge my Tesla is the lost revenue of power sales not retail rate.

My Tesla is going to turn a profit I don’t drive it everyday so I list it on Turo and a couple of other car sharing apps for $20+ hr rental rates. You can bring it back near empty don’t worry about charging it I’ll plug it in at the steel building once it’s home. One day of peer to peer rentals covers a week of lease costs it’s a genius set up. You just have to have the upfront capital to front the finance on the lease, insurance and charging solutions. There is a difference in being in the capital class vs not make no mistake on that. EVs are for the upper classes and capital class in their current form. If China is allowed to import $15,000 EVs at the sedan level then they will explode into the lower class markets. Until then they are best left as a second or in my case fourth vehicle. That said I love the FSD in the Tesla that tech alone is worth the purchase of the lease.

They are doing the same thing in Canada , only worse.

They have imposed a federal carbon tax of 5 cents per liter across Canada. And fuel is going to become unaffordable for the middle-class.

Sphincter Trudeau has decreed that all farm work vehicles must be electric by 2030, and farmers that do not will pay a carbon tax penalty on their income that will drive them out of business, ruining Canadian food production.

These socialist ass hats are serious about destroying our free, capitalist society. And we need to get serious about fighting them . The bogus Green Movement is used as an excuse for implementing fascism.

America lost 140,000 farms in the past 5 years alone — 2,500 shuttered farms per month.

The loss of farms is so egregious , and no one is talking about it much.

Our farmers need help to retire oroiperly and assure their families who are coming up will carry on. They should have a way fo avoiding capital gains for farm transfer to family.
The EPA should stop restricting their water use.

If we continue ti lose farms, all of our food supply will be from South AMerica , controlled by China.
Socialists and Fascists hate independent farers as much as they detest independent truckers. They do not sujugate well.
So they just figure ways to regulate them out of business.

All that needs to change......fast.
