I’ve always seen people supposedly with the “gift of tongues” to be somewhat silly. If it was truly a gift the babbling would equate to some language from somewhere that somebody understood. Like in the book of Acts.

My understanding of the gift in tongues is that its purpose is to either communicate with an audience of a foreign language or to translate somebody who speaks a foreign tongue. When you go to your closet to speak your secret language, it’s your mother tongue which you may not normally use because nobody in your area speaks it.

My daughter was able to interpret the words of a woman speaking in tongues. Her words were in Ancient Egyptian. Her words said “Behold the Lord”.

At the time, my dau. was in school studying ancient languages, so she was able to clearly understand this woman. My dau. was quite shaken by it.
