House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who faces ramped-up threats of a motion to vacate, will not have enough Republican votes for a rule to merge separate foreign aid bills for Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine, meaning he will need to turn to Democrats for help.
Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) both announced Tuesday morning that they are against the rule.
Biggs said he supported Johnson’s initial plan “announced in conference to allow the House to vote on the various aid packages separately. But his since-announced intent to merge them together before sending them to the Senate is wrong.”

What he should do if he wants to spend X on Ukraine is tie it to a border bill that will shut the border and force ICE to deport all illegal border crossers in less than 30 days.

I thought speaker Johnson was smarter than this. Even if the Ukraine and Israel bills were separated, I believe there is enough votes to pass both bills even though I suspect more Republicans will vote for Israel bill than would vote for the Ukraine bill.

its the rules committee vote that matters to decide if it gets a floor vote. Uke aid will pass bigly unless the floor vote can be stopped.

The Rules Committee is heavily tilted to favor the party in power. The current breakdown is nine Republicans to four Democrats. But the three conservatives on the committee, Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Ralph Norman (R-SC), and Chip Roy (R-TX), can block a rule if banding together. >> so conservatives could block the floor vote if all dems vote same...to me this is too risky.

If true that speaker Johnson is calling for a Uke aid vote, then there’s no choice but to vacate the chair.

but Johnson promised that the border had to be dealt with first before Uke aid. johnson seems more like a dem who wears an R jersey (warrantless spying?). the priority for now is just stopping a uke floor vote even if that means vacating the chair.I wish i had a better answer but Jordan isn’t the answer either.
