Third House Republican backs Johnson ouster
The Hill ^ | 4/19/2024 | Michael Schnell

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) announced on Friday that he will co-sponsor Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) resolution to remove Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) from the top job, becoming the third House Republican to back his ouster.

Gosar, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, revealed his support for dismissing Johnson minutes after the House — with help from Democrats — advanced a foreign aid package that omitted border security provisions.

Gosar referenced that omission in his statement backing the ouster effort.

“I have added my name in support of the motion to vacate the Speaker,” Gosar said. “Our border cannot be an afterthought. We need a Speaker who puts America first rather than bending to the reckless demands of the warmongers, neo-cons and the military industrial complex making billions from a costly and endless war half a world away.”

Last Friday, President Trump declared, "I stand with the speaker."

Do they even have a 3 seat majority?

I wonder what is really happening. Just seems like chaos.

The GOP, if they wish to survive, need to decide who they want to replace Johnson WAY before they go this route...

The current make-up (taking into account 4 vacancies) is 218-213. Three Republican defections would give control to the Democrats.

I believe that Jeffries has indicated he’d save Johnson’s speakership if the vote to oust him was based on support for Ukraine.

I wonder if any of those who supported removing George Santos are now willing to admit they’ve severely F’d up?

They can enjoy their Noble Purity as Menendez passes the winning vote for Amnesty in the Senate giving Democrats permanent ownership of power thru Illegal votes that they’re paying off WITH YOUR TAXES.

Could 3 resignations give control to the Democrats? I’m thinking September when Jefferies could shut down the investigations and manipulate the election.

Three resignations would still leave Republicans with a 215-213 majority.

On the face of it, they may need substantially than a majority. It appears there are identifiable R's, Rino's, socialist/dems and traditional dems.

We can expect that many/most dems will team-vote for Johnson as speaker if he will support Biden Admin approved legislation. The Rino's are going to be hard-pressed from both sides.

Johnson may have substantial job security. We could be looking at a turning point where even Trump could not win the seat.

The Dems are already on their way to permanent ownership of power. It may take a little longer with a hiccup or two along the way, but unless you want to inevitably eat the !@#$ sandwich, then you need to start thinking in terms of “purity” now (or just slowly bleed out on the floor).

That’s right and we need to stand with our republican speaker of the house.

People here going on about Johnson being our enemy or treating support for Ukraine like it’s the end of the world need to snap out of it.

How stupid is that? I would rather have Santos and 1 more vote to keep the Congress away from an Amnesty Bill signed by Biden

But you think you’re more virtuous by supporting the ouster of Santos ?

If so, you lack the brains you were born with

Good. It is time to sack Johnson. We cannot win with traitors like this inside the GOP club. It’s time to purge the GOP leadership top to bottom and Republican voters need to do it.

It's not just Ukraine aid, but that the Republicans obtained zero support for border security in exchange for supporting that aid. Additionally, Speaker Johnson cast the deciding vote in the House to reauthorize Section 702 of FISA, enabling the Federal law enforcement agencies, controlled by the Deep State, to engage in warrantless spying on foreign nationals and Americans allegedly in contact with them.

I have no love for Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea. However, the more immediate danger to this country is the Deep State, which has used the Federal police agencies and the Executive Branch to spy upon, censor, and even jail Americans exercising their God-given rights protected by the Constitution.

Now we know why they didn’t want Jim Jordan. They had an Assistant Democrat lined up and ready to roll.

Can we not re-train vs remove?

And the Prima Donna Party continues to prove they cannot govern let alone present a united front like the Democrats do.
