So when they apply for jobs working in D.C. for a cushy federal job, they should have to explain themselves that they've gotten themselves arrested at a pro-hamas protest at their university.

Interesting.
Depending on the school, expulsion, suspension, etc mean different things.
Expulsions pretty much follow you for good. Even if you get another College to admit you, you still have to get your official academic transcript from the place that expelled you. It can be very difficult if the transcript withholding is due to non-financial reasons. And in any case, your official transcript would note expulsion.
