Life long conservative, no victims in my mind, only those who enjoy victimhood. I Love this this Democratic Republic of ours and aim to keep it! I am honored to join Free Republic. No victims in your mind?
Tell that to the families of the people killed.

I don't know if this might offer you some hope or not, but I heard one lady who was on the 90th floor of one of the towers a little while ago. She and all of the others in her company managed to escape down the stairs.
I'm praying that your nephew was one of those who did as well.

I agree, but today is not a day for rationality. Let's start some good threads tomorrow.

MindBender, I'm with you. Just to let you know, on NY1 they were speaking to a man who worked on the 77th floor of the North tower and HE GOT OUT before it collapsed. Don't give up hope. It may be quite some time before you know anything, with the phones down, but I'll be thinking about you.
Maybe everyone else should realize that it's poor comfort to those of us here to read posts like the one that set you off. It's hardly the right time. You would think they'd know that.

Thousands of peolple have just died, becuase you wanted a little liberty.Your statement sir has to be one of the most egregious and obnoxious misstatements ever made on this forum. It is statists like you and slick Willie Klinton who have planted the seeds of this evil tragedy (think attack on the pharmaceuticals plant in the Sudan done just to distract the American press from his BJ in the oval office)

No, thousands of people have died because the world isn't a completely safe place.
I'd much rather be on a flight where many of the passengers are armed, than on a flight where one armed hijacker could take over and re-route the plane.
If you want complete safety, or as close to it as you can get, you should check in at the nearest prison.
But, please don't make my nation a prison for me just because you want safety.

While this may result in our own internal enemies of freedom making gains, the people who did this did it for only one imaginable reason - revenge.
It is either revenge for bombing "aspirin factories" or, more probably, for not seeming to provide the Palestenians with sufficient support vis-a-vis Israel.

So, you would give the terrs the greatest victory that they could hope to acheive, ie, the distruction of American liberty?
We should hunt down the guilty, kill them, kill their funding sources and make their mamas cry. We should not turn ourselves into a police state.

We should all be praying for those who have lost their lives in this tragedy. Henery Kissinger eluded to this very scenario at a Billderber meeting, America under attack, martial law declared and the US Constitution becomes just another piece of paper. This event should have just the opposite affect. The rebuilding of the American militery and arming US civilians is a must.

Some things are going to be different. For example, it's going to be a lot more difficult to take a flight. The key is not to have it become totally different. I agree that people will want to toss their liberties out in favor of safety, and after a day like today, you cannot blame them. However, there is tomorrow, and after that the next day. Hopefully, the impulse to sacrifice liberty will subside with time. If not, we can start blaming them if they still want to give away everything.
One thing that will make a huge difference in how people feel is how President Bush takes action. The more decisive his actions, the more the people will be reassured. And make no mistake, we're talking a massive action. That's for another thread.

This is not the appropriate time to be asking this.
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, we sacrificed many liberties to the cause of national survival and defeat of the Axis powers. The country survived that and the honor of those who lost their lives was maintained.
We need to do whatever it takes to see that this never happens again in this country. If that means nuking somebody, so be it.

Can there be a larger asshole than you?
To: Tauzero
Thousands of people just died because of our imperial foreign policy. You reap what you sow. You are an outright traitor.
To: freeeee
These terrorists greatest achievement would be to destroy the foundation of our nation, our freedom. This is a much greater target than any building, and it is worth more than a million lives lost. Calls for martial law, etc.. are playing right into their plan. This needs to repeated.
To: Tauzero
Thousands of people just died because of our imperial foreign policy. You reap what you sow.You nailed it. It's our fault that some guys hijacked domestic flights, flew them into non-military targets and killed thousands of people. With penetrating analysis like this, I don't need any other news sources. (/sarcasm)
To: Inspector Harry Callahan
First, prayers for all of us, FROM all of us... I suspect we will soon be at war.
Second, there is every possibility that this is just an opening shot in a coordinated effort to destroy this country.
Third... knee-jerk reactions that stomp the liberty of American citizens should be opposed at all cost, as there never has been any retreat from the continued assaults on our constitution.
Fourth... I am buying ammo. IF this is a diversionary tactic of some sort, leading to a all out attack on MY COUNTRY, GOD HELP those sorry worthless individuals who cross my path on their way to their objective.
Fifth... if martial law is declared outside of those cities so horribly affected by these cowardly attacks then Your rights are already history, and you can be shot on sight for failure to OBEY. Be VERY SURE what you do has not already been declared to be illegal.
Sixth... although it has been said that the palestinians are responsible for this in one way or another, I think it is high time the government spill the beans on the historical TRUTH of what is happening in Israel and Palestine. DO YA HEAR ME GEORGE???? The lies are beginning to snowball, and even if israel AND palestine turn out to be smoking HOLES, I want somebodys BUTT behind this one, with PUBLIC EXECUTION... even if it is only seen through the camera of a smart bomb. Screw the BS... it is time for heads to roll.
To: Marine Inspector
Fine, you fool. Let's turn this into a police state. National curfews. National IDs. A national DNA database. Requiring permission from government before you travel.
If people subject themselves to this in order to get a little more security, then the terrorists will truly have won.
