I live in the area heard two loud sonic booms and saw usaf overhead.Local news said there was a plane crash then retracted it.I don't know what was going on but I got the feeling that something is happening you don't get sonic booms over head here normally they reduce speed around the base when taking off or landing. Will report anything of importance.

With the US military at DEFCON 4, all planes capable of doing so will likely be taking off at full afterburner.

I just saw the videotape of one 767 hitting one of the towers... this plane was cruising... at least 400 mph. I am a commercial pilot instructor, and my guess is 550 mph... past safe speed for that aircraft. This pilot was really moving...

I'm in eastern Iowa and about an hour ago I saw 2 high-flying aircraft with long contrails flying from what appeared to me to be SE to NW. At first I thought it might have been AF1 but then figured out the direction they were going. No doubt lots of military aircraft activity this day.

The Japanese are coming ashore at all points along the western coast -- pass it on.

Sonic booms
A case of Hysteria

Anyone know if AF1 is capable of supersonic flight? I know the civilian 747 cannot, but I don't know about AF1. Hey, they've tricked that 747 up to take off quick and move with the F-15s, so who knows?

I'm glad to see some of you find humor, but I can tell you I know what rockets and afterblasts sound like, as do many others who were in VN.
I've lived in this house for 16+ years, and do not recall ever hearing sonic booms as loud. In fact, I rarely hear booms, since I live 10-12 mi from WPAFB.
Have your fun, but Wright-Patt is a huge place, and has always been considered a likely target.
To the serious posters, this wasn't meant for you.

I live on 4th near Smithville, and it did sound like a sonic boom to me. I used to live in Springfield, near Shawnee H.S. and in the late sixties and early seventies the planes would boom near the Reserves airfield(one of my science teachers was a pilot) but they made the planes go slow enough not to break the barrier because of the complaints. The sound and window rattle today immediately made me think back to those past days.

Saw them here in central Illinois, assumed they were military.

I live in Dayton. I did hear something when I came home from dropping my daughter off at a friends. I thought my hubby must have blown up the grill. We turned on local TV...nothing..nothing at all about any kind of crash. I think it must have been a sonic boom. We do hear military aircraft overhead. Libby

I'm in Patterson Park, further south from you. The problem is, we just don't hear many, if any, sonic booms, and that first one from NE was really a boomer. It did shake me up, and considering I lived in a war zone for 5 yrs, you can imagine I'm not too "shaky". I'd planned to sleep in the basement tonight, until I heard the updated news. ;-)
