Since this is a Dayton thread, I decided, around 7:30 p.m., that I wanted some greasy chicken before the world ends and I die, so I off I went to Famous Recipe(Linden)....everyone in Dayton was out getting gasoline! It's insane! I have only seen 1 FR gas thread. How bad a panic is this going to be for Dayton?

Yep, I just came back from a trip into town to pick up my daughter from a friends........long gas lines! The radio stations are trying to discourage it by saying things like "don't let the enemy win"...pretty much madness. Libby

Strategic Air Command No such creature, not for a good long time now. Strategic Command (StratCom) is at Offutt, but its a unified command with no assets of it's own (Air Combat Command owns the bomber aircraft, Navy owns the boomer submarines). Commander is currently a Navy Admiral. Airborne Command Post is based at Offutt as are various recon versions of the -135 aircraft.

Regarding Sonic booms, we need to start thinking of them as the "Sound of Freedom", just as we did in the 50s and even early 60s.

I just saw the same thing, Columbus Ohio, three planes flying from west to east just a few minutes ago. Flying fast, high and you could tell one was large, two smaller seemed to be escorting. An hour ago a single high flying plane also flew from west to east. It appeared to be alone.
It is sad, but we will have to get used to being at war.
God help us and protect us.

"Anyone know if AF1 is capable of supersonic flight? I know the civilian 747 cannot, but I don't know about AF1. Hey, they've tricked that 747 up to take off quick and move with the F-15s, so who knows?"Not in level flight. 35+ years ago someone intentionaly flew a DC8 for a few seconds at a supersonic speed (deliberately!!!) in a shallow dive. Other than the Concord, that is the only time I have ever heard of a civil transport going supersonic other that as a result of a loss of control or pilot error.

I live in OK about 20 miles from Tinker -- AWACS is in the air!

It has been confirmed repeatedly that it was nothing more than sonic booms. I heard it clearly in Huber Heights, ran outside and saw the contrail of one aircraft.
