Barbara Olson, American Patriot
By Ann Coulter

FrontPageMagazine.com | September 12, 2001

AFTER THE HIJACKERS pushed the passengers to the back of the plane out of Dulles Airport, Barbara Olson managed to make two final calls on her cell phone.  She called her husband, Ted, the Solicitor General of the United States. She told him to call the FBI, her plane was being hijacked.

Moments later, evidently while still on the line with her husband, the plane plunged into the Pentagon. Barbara must have had to place the call furtively, and it can’t have been easy to make the call, because of the terrorists as well as the terror.  It was a courageous act.

The Washington Post has run an odd report claiming the hijackers ordered passengers with cell phones to call their loved ones to say they were about to die.  Maybe that’s true.

The facts are still coming out about large chunks of this story.  But I can’t help being suspicious. That story doesn’t really hang together.

If 64 passengers knew they had just been recruited for a suicide mission, it’s hard to figure how the hijackers could have held them off with box-cutters.  It’s also hard to imagine hijackers intent on plunging into the Pentagon bothering with the courtesy of farewell phone calls.  And if they all were about to die anyway, it’s not clear why Barbara Olson would have asked Ted for advice about what she should tell the pilot to do – something that has been authoritatively reported.

We haven’t heard of other cell calls, though nearly everyone has a cell phone these days.

She knew who to call and what to say despite what must have been blinding terror.

She was in death as she was in life: The James Bond woman. Barbara was beautiful enough to be a dumb blonde, but she had the steely determination, wit and charm of someone who would not be able to get by on her looks.

Barbara wrote the New York Times  bestseller,  Hell to Pay,” about Hillary Clinton, the molecular opposite of a James Bond girl.  She smiled and laughed at her debate opponents while sweetly shredding them to bits.  And she never compromised, not her integrity, not the facts, not the law.

Barbara risked having her neck slit to warn the country of a terrorist attack. She was a patriot to the very end. I can’t believe I’ll never be able to tell her that.

Ann Coulter is a bestselling author and syndicated columnist.

The hijackers claimed to have bombs. Not just knives. It is very unlikely the people on board knew they were hijacking the planes to fly as attack missiles. You would not be able to see that you about to hit something from the side windows. The Pittsburgh plane passengers with cell phones may well have known about the three previous hijacked planes fate. The Pittsburgh plane was last to crash. Finding out what happened to the other planes they probably tried to take back control and the plane crashed or the terrorist really did have a bomb.

When her name was announced over the airwaves as one of the fatalities, I could scarcely believe my ears. I was stunned, shocked beyond words.

My second reaction was denial -- ie, this must be a mistake...it couldn't be our Barbara Olson.

Then the confirmation came on the Fox News channel.

I don't cry easy, but I did weep for her. I can't even begin to fathom what Ted must be going through, the excruciating pain, anguish and heartache.

My heart goes out to him, and to the rest of her family and friends.

Barbara Olson was a genuine patriot; she loved America deeply, and her devotion to the rule of law and the constitution was passionate and complete.

We will never forget her. She will sorely be missed.

In our schools our police and law enforcment officers tell us to submit. The gun control advocates say if we only remove all the guns we will be safe. They tell us cowards are usually more safe than the brave. All of it is a lie. Everyone should be able to see that now.

If guns are outlawed then knives are king. That should be obvious to even Tom Browkaw or Peter Jennings, but it is not. It never occurs to them that before guns were invented mem with swords controled the nations.

The fact is the killers that took over the planes were certain there would be no effective resistance. They knew that once they were on the planes there would be no resistance and there was little. They knew they could kill thousands and there was little anyone would or could do.

Can anyone fail to understand that if the flight crews of these planes had been armed thousands more people would be alive today? There might be a few dead people on the planes, or perhaps all the people on the planes would be dead. But there would be no burning ashes of the World Trade Center and the pentagon.

Sara Brady in trying to keep someone from killing her husband has convinced people to become helpless victims as a means of defense. It has been subsribed to by Brokaw, Jennings, Rather, and all of CNN. Their success in making Amercians helpless victims has been an accessory to the murder of more Amercians than all the serial killers that have every lived.

What would you think of people who convinced us the way to prevent infection was to remove all antibiotics? Would such people be held responsible for the many deaths that resulted? I think they should.

How many people will the gun control advocates kill before we hold them responsible. You say that is unfair. People who take guns away don't kill.. killers kill. Then be consistant. People who would remove all antibiotics would not be killing either. It is the infection that kills.

The hijackers claimed to have bombs. Not just knives.

History teaches that those who will not fight because of the other sides weapons, have always lost the battle. History teaches that it is not the size of the dog in the fight, it is always the size of the fight in the dog that determines victory.

Yet our school system teaches people to give in. Let the professional police officers handle it. We are taught to negotiate and talk our way out of the situation. All that policy insures is that the police may catch the killers. It will not save your life.

We forget the lessons of history. The entire history of the world teaches that those that will not fight are prey, and those that will are preditors. We have built a nation of prey. The prey always thinks they will be safe if the lions claws are clipped. The lion does not kill with his claws and jaws. The lion always kills with his will to kill. The prey always die becuase its its only defense is to try to escape.

If wildebeasts fought together with kicking hoves, the Lions would starve and the Wildebeasts would be king. The wildebeasts never learn. Will we?

While I agree with your primes, I disagree about this particular case. If you thought your plane was being taken somewhere else and not used as a suicide flight then you would pick your time to attack carefully. They had no idea what was going on or about to happen. On the Pittsburgh flight they probably did and did fight back. Attacking someone on a plane in flight with a hand grenade in hand is hardly a smart thing to do. It easy to say what we would have done, being there in that situation is a whole different thing. At this point we don't have enough information to know what the situation was really like.
