When will we learn? The state is not our mother and father and we are not it's children. This issue has been raised and raised again in recent days. Why is it we can not think outside of the box? Which is more intelligent - fear of the hypothetical ("there will be wild shootouts in the sky") or the real ("in the end, you are herded like sheep to the back of the plane and told to call your loved ones before you will die").

Who benefits from an unarmed populace when evil is loose in the world?

People in the public safety business seem to have 19th-century ideas in a world of 21st-century transportation. They have only one solution to any problem: trying to control it from the top down,
keeping ordinary citizens as helpless as possible, lest they cause more problems.
It is not very comforting to be on the wrong tail of the risk analysis, left defenseless because it's deemed less risky. Are we free people or statistical sheep?

Oh, one more thing - bump for the libertarian haters - I'm a libertarian. I believe more liberty, not less, is necessary to solve the problems faced in society, or at least to allow us to face them. Government has amply proved incapable of stopping all terror. All admit the terrorists ultimately cannot be stopped by more security restrictions and giving up our liberty. And yet those in government propose a solution of "more of the same". Don't people get it?

There will be no more hijackings when American men decide that they will defend their families and their neighbors from barbarians, risking their lives if necessary.

Seems to me I saw a poster named clamper something or other say the same thing days ago and was promptly jumped on by several freepers for it. Well IMO he WAS RIGHT and shame on those of you who attacted him for speaking the truth

I feel the same way about schools - people should be able to carry legally acquired firearms there....otherwise we are targets....

The WTC attack did not occur because Americans have too much freedom.

It occurred because:

  1. U.S. border/immigration policy allowed known terrorists to enter the country and take flying lessons.

  2. The pilots opened the cockpit doors to the terrorists.

The fact that William Cohen and other statists feel that the solution to terrorism is to "trade freedom for security" demonstrates that their agenda has nothing to do with either.

This guy nails it- the end to terrorism on planes is to give EVERYONE a gun while boarding.

In a simple defense of the passengers, the first two had no idea what was going on- on the 4th plane the passengers had the benefit of knowing what happend to WTC and knew they had to do something.

When a robber comes in to 7-11 the cashiers are fired if they resist. This is the type of sheeple we are raising.

One big guy with a baseball bat beats (literally) a man with a knife.

So for years I have been flying around the globe with my trusty pigsticker in my pocket. Now, even that rudimentary defense is to be taken from me?

How about arming the pilots? One flight attendant? How about forming a cadre of gun-proficient frequent fliers to have a rear-facing seat next to the cockpit door? Give'em a discount. I volunteer.

I am amazed that knife-wielders could get away with this. And who believes in bombs? And who, oh who, is the Clymer who decided that $3/hour illegal Third Worlders, many of them Muslims, should man Airport Security?

3. Because the terrorists believed that the passengers would not interfer because they feared for the lives. Outnumbered 20-1 or not

There will be more terror like this until the anti USA, anit capitalism scumbag MTV generation moves on to something else. Right now bands like "Rage Against the Machine" make it "cool" to hate America.

These idiots aren't dared to be shown on TV right now, but there are there... They were at UC Berkeley saying the US got what they deserved. I blasted (by email...) the editor of the Daily Californian for ignoring it.

AND ANOTHER THING.... Here in the bay area, the x-ray/metal detector security guys barely speak english.

Good luck upgrading security. The ACLU will be on us like white on rice in a glass of milk on a paper plate in a snowstorm, screaming racism if we ever try to replace these people.

Reports say that the terrorists were butchering the flight attendants and passengers and threatened to continue until the crew came out of the cockpit.

The crew had no idea that these people were this evil. They probably assumed that the terrorists would demand to go to Cuba, or make some public statement demanding the release of the WTC bombers. You can't judge the actions of the crew without knowing any of the facts.

Really doesn't take guns. Hijacker walks down the isle ... passengers start throwing magazines, computers, purses, coffee cups, ANYTHING at the hijacker. He puts up his hands to protect his face and the four ... count them ... four people in the aisle seats next to him grap him. Then all around jump on him and beat him mercilessly. Doesn't take planning, or guns ... just some guts.

Believe me, I am not judging them. They had no way of knowing.

WTC2 has changed everyhing.

Anybody who tries to hijack an airliner in the future will be attacked and dismembered by the passengers before he can walk ten feet.

"The institutions of Western culture long ago adopted feminism-a philosophy that holds that the leadership and physical strength of ordinary men are dangerous, unnecessary, and possibly evil.

Someone finally said it. This is the perfect description of the "tie a yellow ribbon/carry a candle/ sing 'We Shall Overcome'" crowd. A bunch of powerless loser/passive resistance types.

I have been repeating these sentiments to people ever since getting word of the attack. I have said that there is no way to guarantee security in a free society; that when you give the government trillions of dollars for defense it protects itself first and spends the remainder spying on you and me; and that all the military spending and gadgetry in the world will do nothing to protect an unarmed society from determined individuals. So far, a blank stare has been the general response.

God help our weak, dissolute culture when terrorists start retaliating for our retaliation.

Disagree with letting anyone walk onto an airplane with a gun. Let people with valid concealed carry permits do so; they've had background investigations and are, statistically, the least likely to misuse their weapons.

I'll bet had Barbara Olson been a man...that plane wouldn't have hit the Pentagon...Mrs. Olson had more nerve and a duty to her country than to stand idly by.

What happened to our revered heros like John Wayne?
