If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me. I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy. -- Deuteronomy 32: 41 - 42

More news of capitalism's finest (now on drudge's front page):

Store owners 'double price of US flags'

Florida governor Jeb Bush has made an emergency declaration allowing prosecution of retailers hiking up prices in the wake of the terrorist attacks.

State officials say they have received 300 complaints in the last five days about inflated prices on American flags and other patriotic items.

State Attorney General Bob Butterworth says in one case a South Florida store owner had doubled the price of flags.

Retailers found guilty of profiteering will face fines of up to $25,000 (about £17,000), reports the St Louis Post-Dispatch.

Story filed: 20:22 Saturday 15th September 2001

Now its gonna be death. --- For a LOT more americans than those who just died. All you irrational warhawks should think about that truth for awhile, as we rationals try to figure a way to wage a decisive war without triggering armaggedon.

The Founders wrote into our Constitution, a pretty good answer to your question.

I can't see why this is not a great idea. In effect this is the system the terrorists use. Individuals and small groups get paid by Bin Ladin or whomever. Why not add this to our state defense?

No argument is relevant in a time of war beside the definition of enemity. And that is completely different and requires completely different rule. When are Libertarians and liberals going to spare us their PC bull crap?! Bunch of morons, you tell me.

The stakes are huge, the threats are real and permeating the whole society through muslim inlets and their supporters as well as possible diplomatic special forces used on US soil to assist them on technicalities. We are at war, we have no time to discuss the sex of the angels, we have to scatter indeed and isolate muslims, their supporters and diplomats. Can America do that? In the current mood of political correctness it is a difficult task, one that looks like trying to inform Jerusalem in 52 AD that it is about to be destroyed by a Roman army at the gates....

Judgment Day America.

Send letters to the congress critters. We don't need another irrelevant money-wasting war on X, we need to get the government out of the way or the nation goes down in flames.

Letters of Marque and reprisal (and the implementation thereof) would send a message more sure than any other.

Keep bumped.

After a marathon prayer-meeting and evening service at my local church (Orthodox Presbyterian), and positive discussion of this subject with several military professionals at my church, I decided to move up my schedule.

I called my old friend Murray Sabrin (National Vice Chair, Republican Liberty Caucus) immediately after the evening service and faxed the above article to his attention.

He had already heard of the Private-sector Bounty proposals being reported in the press, and his response was extremely supportive. He will be calling the office of the honorable Dr. Ron Paul, US Representative from Texas (member, Republican Liberty Caucus) and asking Ron's staff to clean up this proposal for formal submission to the United States House of Representatives.

Fire in the hole!! This Bill is on its way to Congress.

Respectfully, Jim, I would like to offer you my point of view.

Whatever you may think of us, Jim, Libertarians are PATRIOTS.

We just refuse - ever - to use any definition of "Patriotism" but that of George Washington. To Defend our Country, and to advocate policies to keep her safe from harm, without remorse or compromise.

And as George Washington Patriots, we are going to do whatever is within our power to help win this War. Because whatever we may say about the Government, the fact remains that Libertarians love America. We seek to see her enemies destroyed, and to see her kept safe from harm.

AJ -- forgot to bump you this thread: Fire in the hole!! This Bill is on its way to Congress. (See #103)

Yes, arimus, the "Free Republic Libertarian Caucus" is going to do its best to get this Bill as much "air time" as we can muster. Obviously, we'll be staring small -- nunya bidness is going to try to get this posted on Sierra Times, and I will take care of getting it posted on Lew Rockwell's website. We'll just have to go from there, take it day by day.

Friends, libertarians, countrymen... we seek not (as Statist liars would claim) to praise Osama Bin Laden -- but to bury him.
Let's do what we can in the weeks ahead to:

1.) Win this War.
2.) Bring back the "Liberty Teeth" of an active and engaged Citizen's Militia.
3.) Retain our Constitutional freedoms.

I have a question on the background for letters of Marque and Reprisal. Can anyone direct me to any resources, online or print, which discuss this? I have researched several sites devoted to Constitutional studies, but have found nothing substantive. If this has already been asked, sorry. Replies may also be sent email. Thanks!

I faxed the suggestion to Tom Delay's office. I live in his district, so a staffer has to at least look at it before tossing it.

SLEEPLESS VIGILANCE:THE "LETTERS OF MARQUE" CLAUSE: -- Time to put a bounty on the head of every known terrorist? 1 Posted on 09/17/2001 10:04:45 PDT by KDD

Well you're a few days behind schedule (the "Free Republic Libertarian Caucus" already posted the above detailed proposal thread Friday, debated it with ex-military FReepers over the weekend, and now is urging this proposal forward for formal submission to Congress)... but we thank you for your support!!

More to come in the days ahead....

I LOVE IT!

To hell with this "21st century war" bullshit. It's a 12th century opponent, lets fight an 18th century war!

I think it might be best to restrict it to American citizens though ... if the Israelis like the idea, they can always copy it.

What a wonderful, original idea.

If you haven't already done so, you should consider faxing your "modest proposal" to all of the conservative and libertarian pundits, as well as to any members of Congress who might be sympathetic to this idea. The membership of the Liberty Caucus might be a good place to start. As to whether it would help to send a copy to the conservative/ libertarian think tanks either( CATO, Heritage, Reason foundation, etc.), and to as many some conservative economic and Constitutional scholars such as Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell.

What, no bump?

It would be more effective if the acceptance of the Letters were offered to citizens of Arab nations, and if there were a reward for intelligence, not just for apprehension and termination. Unlike pirates at see those folk are difficult to identify.
