"Godbless The USA" (THE SONG)
oldgloryusa.com ^ | Les Greenwood

Posted on 09/17/2001 9:05:56 PM PDT by paltz

If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American where as least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,
across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there’s pride in every American heart,
and it’s time to stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S
.A.

Do you know if Lee Greenwood did any other patriotic songs? One time I heard a song he sang about America with a hallejulah(?) chorus in the background and I've been trying to figure out what it was ever since.

Didn't he do one called "A Big 10-4 For America"?

To: parsifal, all
I met Lee Greenwood in person some years ago travelling to an Army-Navy football game and he is a humble and patriotic guy.

At the game, a football field size flag was unfurled while Greenwood sang God Bless the USA. In a word, it was electrifying! Nary a dry eye in the house.

This song motivates the troops. So play it a bazillion times so that we Americans can continue to drink Pabst or cappucino, go to NASCAR or read poetry on Saturday night.

If you don't like it, turn down the volume.

Almost as witless a form of amusement as soccer IMHO.

Or as witless as broadbrush painting the rest of the country.

I have never been to a NASCAR race and I love the song.
"Lives there a man with soul so dead..."

Try that first line of your clueless PC friends.

Saturdays nites are meant for poetry readings, watching foreign films,or drinking a cup of capuchino with your friends.

You sound like you are about as much fun as having screws poked in your eyes.

Look, I posted this song, because of the context of the situation we are currently in.

Why are you even responding to this jerk?

He probably thinks we ought to hug the Mass Murderers and schmooz with them.

Sorry, but any 'man' that enjoys poetry readings, foreign films and cappuccino with 'friends' on a Saturday night simply scares the hell out of me.

I counted at least 3 or 4 other people on this thread who have the same opinion of the song that I do. Paltz has every right to post the lyrics for those who like it. And us other Freepers (with a much better aesthetic sense)have the right to say snide things about it. The freeper who said it was cheesy said it best.

I counted at least 3 or 4 people on FR who think we "had it coming" and "deserved" the Mass murder at the World trade Center, too.

And your point is? That freedom means the right to be gauche and clueless?

A time to build, a time to tear down...
I get a few just didn't get the "common sense" gene.

At a time like this, our country deserves its best Patriotic Songs! This particular song, however, makes me want to become French or something. IMHO, it is almost un-patriotic in that it offends lovers of good music at a time of national peril.

I kept waiting for the punchline. I thought that no Freeper could be THAT much of a @$$, must be joking, I thought to myself. But alas, I was wrong. Well, in the very least, it certainly is good to know who the real @$$holes are around here. I will note that for future reference. Meanwhile, you can go to hell.

I like THIS song...dedicated to Osama bin Laden:

KILLING AN ARAB - The Cure

Standing on the beach
With a gun in my hand
Staring at the sea
Staring at the sand
Staring down the barrel
At the arab on the ground
I can see his open mouth
But I hear no sound

I'm alive
I'm dead
I'm the stranger
Killing an arab

I can turn
And walk away
Or I can fire the gun
Staring at the sky
Staring at the sun
Whichever I chose
It amounts to the same
Absolutely nothing

I'm alive
I'm dead
I'm the stranger
Killing an arab

I feel the steel butt jump
Smooth in my hand
Staring at the sea
Staring at the sand
Staring at myself
Reflected in the eyes
Of the dead man on the beach
The dead man on the beach

I'm alive
I'm dead
I'm the stranger
Killing an arab
