You've noticed that too? I always shake the pilot's hand and go either "Air Force?" if the landing is long and smooth or "Navy, right?" if we hit like a sack of s**t. One time I did that and the guy sort of grimaced. "Hard huh?" I just grinned. "Three wire, man!"

You've obviously never heard of "Operation Olympus."

That's just about the funniest scene I've seen in any movie.

"Well it might have seemed that way to you, back here in the WORLD with your love beads and your dope smoking boyfriend and your peace marches BUT WHEN YOU'RE UP TO YOUR ASS IN MUD, WITH THE FUCKING GOOKS SHOOTING AT YOU AND YOUR BUDDY BLEEDING ALL OVER YOUR CHEST!!!!"

I have a buddy that flies Apaches, and believe me, they carry some big guns. Not many fighters that would want to mess with an Apache. They are invisible too (until they pop above the trees and pop you). Not many trees over there in the desert, but the canyons should work just fine.

Quite a good thought, but to be honest, OVERLORD and TORCH (two WWII invasions, both called D-Day today) to me sound non-meaningless. Operation Overlord is an excellent name, I do not know why we switched to two name Op codes. We will name the war later ("Remember the time the US killed everyone in Iraq's army and sold the rest of the population into bondage, sowed the land with salt and paved over Baghdad? That was a hoot.") But for now, let us be content to have a little laugh.

"Infinite Justice" is a great name. So great, in fact, that if the administration caves in and removes it, under pressure form the everpresent political correctness crowd, then we should all just throw up our hands, declare a Constitutional crisis, call some delegates, and elect a real, new government.

I remember at one time seeing requirements for a tailhook for a navy configuration of the F-16 (which would imply that it was intended to be capable of carrier landings). The Navy Top Gun program was using the F-16 as its adversary aircraft for training (a great choice given its superior dogfighting capabilities -- one might as well train against the best).

I'm not sure whether the 16 has a tailhook or not (I never worked them). You have a picture of one? I am SURE the F-15 A/B/C/D models ALL had tailhooks. Don't know about the newer models. AF craft have the hooks to grab cables on runways (There really and truly is/was such a thing).

Most F-16 did not have tailhooks, only a few that were a unique configuration sold to the Navy. I don't have a picture of a tailhook-equipped F-16, only the knowledge from materials management experience that there were requirements for tailhooks for a particular configuration of F-16. I DO know that there were some missions for which the F-16 was required to have very short landing capability.
