We Need You -- In the wake of the recent attacks on the United States, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be called upon to provide essential services to the Coast Guard as they focus more heavily on their military missions.  We will need all the help we can get.  You needn't own a boat or even be an experienced boater, since our missions are wide-ranging.  For information about existing Auxiliary missions and the Auxiliary in general, go to our Join the Auxiliary webpage.  You will find there a form through which you can ask that a local Auxiliarist make contact with you to explore the ways in which you can assist Team Coast Guard and, in the process, do something for our country in its hour of need.

I just wanted to let you know I met with the Flotilla Commander today
and it turns out that I have a few skills that they need and can utilize.
My application should be approved in about 10 days.
Also as of Sept 11 the Coast Guard itself is under the command of the Department of Defense.
While the Auxiliary is not part of the military, it can and does support military actions.
I'm just glad that this old rusty tin can sailor can help protect our country again.

I just joined. I'm landlocked and don't know what I can do, but I emailed a flotilla at a nearby lake.

Let us know what happens. We've contacted the flotilla commander in our area and are waitng for the paperwork to sign up.

Our local Auxillary put out the call to the Navy Leaguers in our area, as their group is not very large and standing watch 24 hours a day is taking a toll.

I met with the Flotilla Commander on 10/3 and was interviewed and filled out the application.
He said about 10 days to get paperwork approved.
I talked to him again on 10/12 and he has just gotten some approval
from some folks who submitted their stuff about a week before me.
Well while it is NOT being in the military this is what I'll be doing.
The Navy and Oregon National Guard said 53 is too old to be in.
I'll be in Coast Guard Auxiliary District 13, Division 5 Flotilla 51 COOS BAY, OREGON

A Navy Vet can give you input on what is going on with him in Southern Calif.

I just recently became a Centennial Member of the Navy League and now proudly display the sticker on my truck...aside from my donation, what else can I do to be of assistance in the War Effort?!

Well, one thing you can do for the coast guard is write some letters to congress requesting that they allocate funding to upgrade the coasties fleet of vessels. One of the reasons they are so short handed right now, is that they cut back on personnel to free funds to upgrade their fleet.
