RadioFR - How to get Your Own Show on "Fearless Talk Radio"!
10-1-01 | Bob J

Posted on 10/01/2001 9:25:48 PM PDT by Bob J

RadioFR has had it's first show and it appears to have been a great success! Congratulations to AnnaZ and Mercuria and a big thanks to agitator and TORN, our station sponsor and engineer!

Right now we have a "beta" test of this concept to extend 12 weeks with a one hour show once per week (Thursdays at 6pm Pacific). This plan may change as the situation demands and we may add programming if necessary. During this period we will determine if the concept has legs, and if so, come up with a plan on how to fund it in the future. Ultimately, we want to schedule 2 hours of programming, five nights a week, for 52 weeks. That will cost $75k-$100k. Figures aren't exact as we are trying to make due with as much volunteer labor and marketing as possible.

We have had several requests from FReepers who wanted to try their own hand at hosting a show, and that is what we want to encourage. RFR is designed for Free Republic and for FReepers. It will be run by FReeprs, it will be hosted by FReepers and no station sponsors, advertiser or mid level "suit" will tell us how to operate it. Following is the approval process and what is involved in putting YOUR show concept onto the air.

The basic structure for show approval looks like this;

Idea/request->Segment Producer->Scheduling Manager/Show Coordinator->Approval Committee->SHOWTIME!

If you have an idea for a show, have a suggestion for or a guest you would like to interview, want to debate another FReeper or would like to conduct a report from a remote location, you first need to fill out an application (hey, we need SOMWE controls) and contacting the appropriate segment producer. The SP will assit you in developing your idea or concept to give it the best shot at approval. Once the SP is confident in your application, it will be forwarded to the Scheduling Manager and Show Coordinator, prior to being forwarded to the approval committee for review. The AC will evaluate your application on the following basis;

1. Strength of show content/theme.
2. Overall plan including potential guests.
3. Posting history of applicant. (Have you conducted yourself in an exemplary manner on the Forum?)
4. Experience of applicant (not critical, but it won't hurt)

You will have a better shot if you're show has a theme or specific issue it will cover. This doesn't mean you can't propose a general issue application, who knows, the next Rush or Sean Hannity will come from FR, but, we have received several proposals for this type of show and we do not want to overburden the programming schedule with them. Controversial themes are not necessarily a drawback. A nasty and abusive posting history might be.

The first step is to fill out the application at the end of this post. You may either c&p it into a WP document or fill out out by question number. Forward the app to the appropriate segment producer via FReepmail.

Serial Show Producer - diotima
Serial shows are specific and general issue shows that may reappear on a regular basis. "Unspun with AnnaZ" or "On Target with John Bender" (2nd amend) are good examples. Contact diotima.

Interviews and Townhalls - The Shrew and Ironjack.
We expect Serial Show hosts to eventually have a regular parade of guests, but if there is a specific or topical VIP you could either arrange or suggest, contact The Shrew or Ironjack.

Debates - Sussa
We plan on having a regular debate schedule between FReepers or FReepers and outside entities. A good example would be Howlin debating rdf on stem cell research, or, a member of SAS debating someone from HCI. You got a beef with another FReeper? Take it to RFR Debate. Established debating rules in effect. Contact Sussa.

Remote Broadcasts - Doughtyone
We also plan on having live remotes from where ever FReepers are kicking lib butt. An example would be Jeff Head reporting from Klamath, Kristinn reporting from DC, or Diver Dan reporting from in front of Condit's office. Contact D1.

General issue questions can be sent to myself or Ms. AntiFeminazi, who is acting as Scheduling Manager and Show Coordinator.

Go to it FReepers! Use your imaginations, creativity, connections, and remember...there are only three kinds of FReepers!

Those who make things happen...
Those who watch things happen...
Those who wonder what happened.

(I apologize in advance to anyone who feels insulted)

RFR has toll free numbers. Don't worry about it.

If you are going to do a cohosted show from different locales (with call ins), you will have to set up a 3 way call with your co host. That expense you assume.

Shows will be broken down into one half hour or one hour slots. You need to prove you have the material/issue content to fill either one. No one gets a show until they exhibit they can fill the time and make it interesting to the listeners.

How about a live interview with Patrick Knowlton and his attorney, John Clarke. They are about to get a ruling re the Vince Foster case (hearing was 8/16), and they have updated their book, "Failure of the Public Trust". I know John posts here, but I'm not sure if Patrick does (even though he knew about FR and even knew the term "Freeper").

Bob,

Is there any chance that we can do a show from CPAC this year?

Just think about the guests that can be inerviewed there.

Patrick is well aware of FR (he was going to speak at the March For Justice, his attorney DID speak)) and I think he would agree to be interviewed by FR. Pass your suggestion on to The Shrew and IJ.

That IS cool!

We'll have a great time this year again I'm sure.

I think we'll even have more FR folks attending this year than last.

Here's your chance...Man or mouse?

I'd like a chance to try this out. I'm flexible about program names. Something like "Liberty or Death!" would set the right mood. My first program would include the Clinton pardons, especially the pardoning of terrorists. Of course, there should be more current news as well, such as reading the high post volume at that moment and making remarks about it.

Further, I believe in contingencies to draw upon if there isn't much of a reaction from the subjects brought up.

As for troublesome callers, I would try to egg them on to stay a while under normal circumstances. If a liberal is shrill or obnoxious, let him show us what liberals are really like and what they really think. =]

Lastly, I am not doing my job until you have to put up a "not necessarilly the station's opinion" waiver. I absolutely want that waiver. I don't know about other people, but when I see that waiver, I get very curious about what the guy has to say. More rather than less with that wonderful waiver. =]

I'll send a private message. Freegards....
