Bin Laden represents a sect of Islam which cannot be allowed to survive, because if it survives it will eventually attain the technological ability to destroy all life on this planet. It already has the will to do so.

We should destroy the mullahs, the schools, the families, and every living trace of "Ladenism". We should not accept their "defectors" because they are liars and will simply wait to stab us in the back when they recover their offensive capability. This should be a war of utter and complete annihilation.

But it will not be. There will be no cleansing of militant Islam because we are bound to find some "good" Islamic militants who are willing to turn on Bin Laden. And so, when Osama is laid to rest and the Taliban is rendered harmless, we will turn over that corner of the world to "friendly" Islamic "ex"-militants. And we will ride off into the sunset convinced that Virtue has conquered, and firm in our belief in the essential goodness of mankind.

And then in a decade or so, we get to do the whole thing all over again.

I think there's some understandable aspects of your contentions.

However, Ben Laden doesn't seem to have a clue about what God's REAL attitude toward him is. And he has even less of a clue about how God will deal with him regardless of what the rest of the world does.

Almighty God really does hate violence--particularly against innocents. And he's infinitely excellent at insuring that the universal law of reaping and sowing falls heavily on Ben Laden's back.

God will clean up the whole Islamic mess when it suits Him and when He's through using it in its present forms for His purposes. Satan thinks he has options. Even satan's only option is to be used by God for God's purposes. Ben Laden is less of an issue by quite a margin than his master satan is.

I think you underestimate American resolve. Never before has the United States been so horribly attacked on its home soil. This is far more devastating than Pearl Harbor, and we still have USA troops stationed in Germany and Japan.

There will be a permanent garrison of USA troops in places that you would not dare to mention on this forum in less than 12 months.

It looks like that has already taken place in Afghanistan, where I hear what sounds like the first troubling news thus far as the anti-Taliban effort unfolds: that there have been sizable "defections" from the Taliban side to the side of the Northern Alliance, and that these defections have apparently been accepted, rather than the obvious option of killing the "enemy". Of course the killing could come later, or the N.A. could be opportunistically using them for their intelligence and/or just to have more temporary manpower. Too many "ex"-Taliban remaining behind, and wanting to point to the "help" they gave us and the N.A. could result in re-establishing themselves in positions of power,(this time euphemistically called "sharing" power) which would put us back close to Square One.
