The US and its allies say we are not at war with Islam. But bin Laden, his terrorist networks and the states that harbor and support them certainly disagree. They certainly think they are engaged in a religious war against the great Satan, and their objective is to kill the infidels and destroy Western civilization. We ignore or downplay their threats at our peril.
