Yeah -- well of course the stuff is impossible to read Dennis, but the point is Said --- an intransigent enemy of Israel and leftwing dissembler of decades standing --- a) condemns the bombings in strong language, b) blames the Palestinian leadership for the condition of the Palestinian people and calls for new leadership, abandoning Arafat, and c) acknowledges that any solution includes a State of Israel within secure borders. I thought it was worth pointing out because it came from the reprehensible Said, indicating that even among Israel's most hated enemies the intellectual justifications for opposition to Israel are in a state of flux. For that reason, Israel's supporters should be somewhat encouraged.

To me these are just latest fashionable talking points he put together with his leftist buddies up in Morningside Heights. I don’t believe anything he says is what he really feels. What you read is just an intellectual exercise to be published in an Arab newspaper and elsewhere……….. The Arabs are trying to maneuver Israel into a position where it gives up all the West Bank and Gaza for empty promises of peace. I can just see Edward Said saying he’s sorry when the Jihad and terror continue after Israel gives away West Bank and Gaza to Pallies. In fact he would never say sorry, but would have a new set of excuses and explanations why Pallies are justified in continuing to fight against Israel.

I am doubtful about peace due to the very high Palestinian and Arab birthrates which are the fuel for a never ending Jihad. Every day Hamas and the PLO look arround and are reassured by the weight of hundreds of millions of Arab Muslims behind them.……This worldwide Jihadist pressure won’t end unless Mecca/Medina/Qum are nuked and I am 100% serious. Islamic imperialism will continue until thisday of reckoning.

Are you joking? Said is as important to this war as a flea in Patagonia is to a Yak in Mongolia.

This is the kind of Egyptian intellectual discussion that Said contributed too. This is why I said Said's words are meaningless to me.

A recent article in the Jordan Times (Monday, June 17, 2002 AP) sheds lights and startles the reader on the current state of affairs in Egypt, even among the educated elite. At a seminar entitled “After the Demise of Israel,” that country’s educated elite made know its views on the elimination of Israel, in spite of what often appears to be the leading role taken by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in regional piece talks and in apparent disregard for the peace treaty signed between Egypt and Israel over ten years ago. Relating to the title for the symposium, “After the...
