There's only one way through (I won't say 'out of') this mess. I hope President Bush is smart enough to see the end game. Afganistan has nothing to do with OBL. He's long gone outa there anyway. It MUST be about establishing a massive forward base of operations ONLY.

From this platform we must launch air strikes against Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, and Yemen ASAP. We must destroy their entire airforce and all tanks and hopefully their brigades. If Saudi Arabia or Egypt even looks at us cross eyed they get the same treatment.

We must simultaneously occupy and control the best oil fields and sieze the tankers belonging to all hostile ME nations. We will take any amount of oil necessary for as long as we deem it necessary.

This will pay for the effort. We should maintain a military no fly zone over and around all hostile nations in perpetuity. Ground forces will be left alone unless they move against us or anyone. In which case we will neutron bomb them.

We will give no aid, we will not trade with any hostile nation. We will simply take all of their oil we wish. We will allow no TV or radio or paper communications in or out of the hostile nations. If after ten years or so there's anybody left alive and they beg us long enough and hard enough and promise to never even have a military again, we might consider allowing them back into the world of the civilized. During all these operations we will maintain constant high level intense special forces attacks wherever or whenever necessary to rout out ALL terrorist networks root and branch.

Why do I doubt this will happen? It won't happen because this nation does not have a strong enough will to live.
