Fred, I have to disagree with you.

I was in Israel twice in the early '80s. It was the only country in the Mediterranean area that actually welcomed US servicemen.

In all the other countries we were treated at best as unwelcome nuisances.

I never forget good treatment. My best wishes to Israel.

BTW, if you had a bad neighbor who kept taking potshots at you I'm sure you would finally do something about it. The Israelis are no different in that.

I think the situation is rather complicated. First, the country or “state” was called Palestine for thousands of years. On all maps published before 1948, it is labeled “Palestine”. Some Jews began moving there after the Zionist movement began in the late 19th Century. I don’t see any problem with that, as long as they bought the land they settled on. I’ll even go along with the 1948 “partition” borders. But the problem is that many Israelis want all of Palestine, and they want to take it by force.

So they’ve been kicking the goat herders and olive growers off more and more of their family land for the past 53 years. The goat herders seem to reproduce prodigiously, and so that has left a lot of young goat herder descendants who have been thrown off their legal property and ancestral homeland. I realize that a lot of them are uneducated, stupid, “ugly”, and fanatical, but their land has been stolen, and that is why they are mad. There was very little trouble with the Palestinians before the great theft and land-grab started in 1948.

With Israel occupying the PA territory the violence will abate, and up to this point that is the only way it has been controled. Ole Yasser is in a tough spot. Excuse please hehehehahaha! Israel is demanding the arrest of the militants who killed the cabinet minister and that they be turned over to Israel.If he does this his own PA will probably kill him. If he doesn't comply Israel has no choice but to continue going after these militants to keep a lid on the violence.
