BLACK FLAGS of Islam -- Portents of the Imam al-Mahdi?

There has been much speculation since the attacks of 9/11. Why did this happen? What does Osama bin Laden want? Does he really hope to defeat the United States, even if he does have caves full of Weapons of Mass Destruction?

How?

Perhaps by rallying the Islamic world to his cause? He has declared a Holy War, a jihad, against the United Sates and Israel, vowing to banish us from the Arabian Penninsula and Israel from the Holy Land and Jerusalem, or we will be destroyed. Certainly he has captured the violent imagination of much of the Moslem world. But is it enough to be a master terrorist, a Warlord of Jihad? Or is Osama bin Laden aiming for loftier goals?

The more I read of him, the more it becomes clear that bin Laden sees himself as a Divinely appointed Liberator of Islam. I believe that he might be attempting to assume the mantle of the neo-messianic Imam al-Mahdi, the long-prophesied, long-awaited Twefth Imam.

So I did a little looking around, to see if I could find any of these "Black Flags" of the al-Mahdi prophesy. They aren't common, but they're there. Do they prove that this is bin Laden's plan? No.

But we know two things… He has a plan, and we haven't got a clue as to what it might be.

Or maybe we do.

I've gathered some pictures of Islamic radicals, jihadin allied with bin Laden's cause. They have Black Flags, but the flags not all identical. Is there a pattern here? Is this coincidence? I don't know. I'm hoping someone familiar with Arabic will be able to help translate some of the writings captured in the pictures. I'm also hoping others will use this thread to post pics of the Black Flags of Islam as they appear.

The pictures I've gathered here were mostly taken recently. I've tried to give that information where I've been able to determine it. I've also linked most of the pics to their source sites, just click and go. Maybe someone else will find things there that I've missed. At the top of the table, I've also provided a couple of links to existing threads on the subject of bin Laden's master plan.

From what I've seen on the tv the Taliban flag is white. I thought it was kind of funny to see all their vehicles running around with white flags like they were surrendering. Am I wrong here?

No, you're not wrong. In fact posted the Taliban Flag just above the last pic of bin Laden.

At this time, the Taliban flags are white with an Arabic inscription in black. Don't know what that means yet.

That's why the black flags, if they appear, might be significant.

6. Escape from Madina to Makkah where people will pledge allegiance to him;

9. Rule over the Arabs for seven years according to Sunnah;
10. Spread justice and equity on earth;
11. Eradicate tyranny and oppression;
12. Lead a prayer in Mekkah which Jesus(pbuh) will follow in;
13. NOT be the same individual as the Promised Messiah (Jesus)."

Doesn't really matter if he's actually the Twelfth Imam (if there ever is one), it matters if he thinks he is, and if he can convince enough other Moslems of his "Divine Mission."

Excellent post.

We may over emphasize the person of bin Laden in all of this. But there is no doubt that Al-Qaeda intends to be the Mahdi's army of destiny. No doubt about it many believe bin Laden is the Mahdi.

I'm looking for some kind of a move during Ramadan.

An intriguing thought. If bin Laden were to show up at the Ka'aba during Ramadan, would the Saudi government dare to try to arrest him? Everything I've read suggests the Saudi government is deathly afraid of bin Laden and the militant Muslims who follow him.
