"...because any viable alternative gets suppressed...." So develop the alternatives and get rich.

Whether I have a problem relying on oil is irrelevant. The fact is alternative technologies get stifled, bought out, etc. To say just go out and do yourself when you'd be taking on the biggest oligarchy this world has ever known and probably end up dead for the effort is wisdom indeed. I'll be happy to do it, but would need some help. First I need a chemist with an alternative, then some venture capital (quite a lot) and army/bodyguards to protect all involved. Any takers?

Better still, I would recommend a change in the patent law that says if a patent has not been bought to market within five years of it being purchased, then it is automatically put up for sale again. This should prevent patents being bought for the sake of scuttling them.

I wouldn't believe a thing Seymour Hersch says.
However, our military is in a learning process in Afghanistan, and obviously they're finding it a tougher go than what they expected. I give them credit for adapting as they go, and I have no doubt that they'll go on to victory. It's also commendable that the US is open to accepting expertise from the British SAS. We need help, and it's great we're allies and working together.

"First I need a chemist with an alternative..." Use one of the suppressed alternatives--list the suppressed alternatives and who suppressed them---maybe we can engineer around the patent (it's done all the time ).

"This should prevent patents being bought for the sake of scuttling them." Could you list a few--would be interesting to analyze.

I can't remember seeing a single "news report" filled with so much BS.
Anyone who knows anything about our military in general and our special forces in particular know that there is no way they would respond they way they were reported to in this article.
Even if they'd taken mass casualties they would never respond that way. Maybe if Clinton was still CIC, but even then I doubt it.

Soldiers sacrificing their lives and their body parts for the sake of lucrative oil drilling and transportation contracts, a lifetime of profits for America's big oil companies. Can someone clue me in on how U.S. oil companies (or any company for that matter) are going to make a dime in Afghanistan.
To: droberts
It's all a matter of economics. When alternative energy sources and energy efficient products (i.e. electric cars) become cheaper to produce and sell, people will buy them so long as they meet their needs. When people are willing to buy, companies will be more than willing to sell... and make a profit. And that's not a bad thing.
To: RoarNLion
Are you off your rocker? This report is right out of Taliban country and another attempt at propaganda that will demorilize us. I am ashamed of your statements. Go post at DU or somewhere else.
To: RoarNLion
This article, originally written by Seymour Hersh was already published and discredited several days ago. Where are the seriously wounded soldiers? Don't you think CNN and the NYT would LOVE to pulicize a failed US military raid? It's what they live for. Wake up moron.

This exaggerated news is three days older than dirt.
Next you'll post.. "Dewey Captures Manilla"
What a Whistledick !

We didn't have to "request" the SAS, they have been on the ground with the Green Berets (probably since a few days after 9/11) working with the indiginous population to gain information and establish aliiances. That is what both units do.

We can all move on now. RoarLion posted this crap, and left. He knew he couldn't defend it, so he didn't. Go back to your homes, nothing to see here.

Asinine comment.
What seems to be missing from this discussion is the fact that before our Special Forces were on the ground, some stupid jerks took it upon themselves to blast the airwaves with the info. that they were going in. If there were any serious injuries it would be the medias' fault in the first place!

Thats no Roar - your voice is the simpering whine of a coward.
I suggest that you read "Bin Laden - The Man Who Declared War on America" by Youssef Bodansky. You might discover, assuming your attention span is greater than that of a 4 year old, what the real motivations behind this war are!
After that, you can decide whether Your With Us, Or Against Us!
To: RoarNLion
sources in Pakistan said yesterday. Oh, now we're supposed to trust nefarious "sources" in Pakistan? Taliban official perhaps?
I'd rather listen to Rumsfeld.

You libertarians are really having a tough time, aren't you?
