Had trouble getting Fox News this morning, and turned to this. The part I saw was old fashioned, feel good, patriotic we-love-our-country, we-love-our-military stuff. Worth watching.

What? What? ABC??? They carried the President's speech last night as well.
Eisner must have laid down the law. That is the only explanation I can come up with.

A great show so far. I just hope the ABC hosts don't steal the ship's merchandise like happened when a Scumbag gang visited a ship.

I love the Big E but she is getting a little long in the tooth. Launched in 1963, I think. That is a very long time for a ship to spend in salt water. Maybe it is time to decommission her and transfer the name to a new carrier.

She recently underwent an extensive overhaul at Newport News.

I thought the Enterprise was just one ship, but it's an entire fleet, including subs, frigates and battle ships. The parts on GMA that I saw were very inspiring, brought tears to my eyes knowing that these brave men and women were fighting to protect me. God Bless the United States military.

You must look at the ship as a whole. A ship that is nearly 40 years old IS old. Nuke, or no nuke, steam pipes get rusty, things wear out, equipment becomes outdated.

Will I see you tonight?Yes, I wouldn't miss it for the world!

She is actually the only one in her class.

You must look at the ship as a whole. A ship that is nearly 40 years old IS old. Nuke, or no nuke, steam pipes get rusty, things wear out, equipment becomes outdated. And they get replaced. Every inch of steam plant piping has been replaced more than once, every pump, valve, turbine, cooler etc. has been rebuilt, replaced overhauled UMPTEEN times.

Hey, what's going on? I wasn't invited.
To: hut1hut2
What is it with you guys? It is a ship. An inanimate object that is wearing out. Just how long do think she will be seaworthy? How many times can a turbine be rebuilt?
Yes, she has a long proud history, but she also carries the name of ANOTHER ship that was decomissioned and scrapped.
Truthfully, she is nearing the end of her economical and useful life. I say retire her and make her a floating museum as soon as we have a replacement. (And we cn blame clontoon for NOT having a replacement.)

She is actually in a class of her own. BMP to the Big E...still a beauty after all these years and the fastest carrier in the fleet.

I give credit to the show I've not watched in years. They did a pretty good job. Thank goodness Katie wasn't there.

A 50 year life span is not unreasonable for a capital ship.
