Forrest was far more than the founder of the Klan, as I'm sure you're aware. I believe there is even a state holiday observed in Tennessee on his birthday.

In the interest of historical truth, it is important to distinguish between the Klan of the late 1860's - an absolute necessity for the protection of Southerners from the brutality of reconstruction that was directed against them - and the Klan of the 1920's.
