Zoroastrianism was the dominant religion is the land, prior to islam. It was (and is) monotheistic. One God.
The persecuted Zoroastrians fled the land, and today can be found mainly in Bombay, Los Angeles (and I believe in Karachi). Somebody help me with this.
In the 1970s the Shah invited them to return to Iran, for they are generally well educated, professional class folks.
However with the mullah-dictator revolution, wise Zoroastrians fled again; a friend of mine wound up in California. Many have left India, for other places in the British Commonwealth (Britain, Canada, etc.).
As a group, they are small and shrinking, for they insist on intermarriage very strongly. Those I have met and known were very good people.
Their religous credo is something like "good thoughts and good deeds." Much like Christianity and Judaism, in terms of moral underpinnings, rules for life.
