The sign, outside the Crossroads Assembly of God Church, states: "The spirit of Islam is the spirit of the antichrist."

Truth

Absolutely the truth, and I don't care what illbay thinks about it. I am not into political correctness. I wish the pastor and his church well, he is only telling the truth, and the truth hurts sometimes, but such is life.

every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world."

Next the week the sign will say, "The spirit of Judaism is the spirit of the antichrist."

The following week, it will say, "The spirit of Hinduism is the spirit of the antichrist."

The week after that, you will be treated to, "The spirit of Buddism is the spirit of the antichrist.

The church´s pastor, who put up the sign Monday, said the message reflects not hatred, but the Gospel. No, "reflects not hareid but" his interpretation of "the Gospel."

For the Mayor a quote from The Washington Post -- Style Section today:

Mohammed Kureishi: "Islam is fundamentally opposed to democracy. Democracy is law by the people, of the people, for the people. No. We want the law by Allah, for the people. It's man-made law versus divine law. You can't have both."

Mohammed Kureishi goes on: "The objective of a caliphate is to make Islam dominate the world. The filth of capitalism dominates the world and should be eradicated."Message to Mayor - they will come for you too!

bedrock principles of our nation is that of freedom of religion and tolerance for other beliefs.

Well...actually...the freedom of religion is from the perspective of governmental control. The Church isn't part of the government, so that isn't a problem. As for tolerance...again, I must disagree. The US was founded on Christian principles; in fact, until JFK there was a rather broad prejudice against Catholics. I would also point out that if one is in fact a Christian, then accepting islam as equally legitimate is in direct and substantial conflict with established Christian doctrine.

The word antichrist is not just a noun, but is also a verb.

Sorry, that should be ADJECTIVE...first post of the day.

Next the week the sign will say

So? He runs a Christian church. They reach about Christ. I still don't see a problem here.
Islam is hate, the others are not.Maybe that's why he chose it for his sermine.
He has the right. If people don't like it, don't read the sign.

...one of the bedrock principles of our nation is that of freedom of religion and tolerance for other beliefs.

Show me where our founding documents say that we, as individuals or groups, have to "tolerate" any religions or creeds.

I don't have to "tolerate" a religious group that would include child sacrifice among their sacraments, for instance.

Neither do I have to "tolerate" a religion that espouses death for unbelievers and genital mutilation for young girls.

"It is inappropriate. It doesn´t reflect the community, and it sure doesn´t reflect myself or my council," Mayor Steve Rhodes said,

And this is why the constitution protects churches from government.

"The spirit of Islam is the spirit of the antichrist."

That's not a good idea from an ambassadorial standpoint. This sign will turn into West-hating propaganda, and proof that this was IS against Islam, thus turning all Muslims against all Christians and probably bringing about Armaggeddon. A Christian partor is an ambassador of the Christian faith. What was this pastor thinking?

Historic Christianity has held to the trinity from the foundation of the Church. The Apostle John held that those who denied the divinity of Christ were part of the spirit of antichrist which was already in the world in his day.

Guess John would consider YOU antichrist also, illbay.

For those of you with an interest in end times, let me recommend that you watch the move Apocalypse that was done by Jack Van Impe ministries. Yes, it's low budget with bad acting and awful effects, but I believe they did a great job of projecting how things might unfold.

Over and over, the message of antichrist about Christians was that they were spreaders of "hate," enemies of "peace and harmony," yada yada ad nauseum. Given the way "hate" is constantly thrown around now when someone dares speak Biblical truth, I think they've painted a very realistic scenario of how things could unfold.

"The spirit of Islam is the spirit of the antichrist."

This message is true of Islam. They do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God. They say so.

Historic Christianity has held to the trinity from the foundation of the Church. The Apostle John held that those who denied the divinity of Christ were part of the spirit of antichrist which was already in the world in his day.

The Pastor was merely quoting what the Muslims proclaim! And, yet, look at the Pastor bashing and Gospel bashing on this thread! Woe unto you who call evil good and good evil. Woe unto you.

Rev 3:9

Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they areJews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Who ( what people ) was He speaking to at that time ? Let's be honest here. God will not be mocked !!

1 John 4: 2-3 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Spreading the word of God? Odd a Partor would try to get away with that!! Bring in the liberal trial lawyers. This man must be stopped. Someone may have been "offended" , and we have "offened" laws in our New Socialist regime! Someone stop that man!!

Only fundamentalist Islam condones killing people who do not believe as you do. Neither Hinduism nor Buddhism rejects our Christian theology that Jesus is the Son of God. They simply do not address the issue. Jews accept the idea that there will be a Messiah, they just have a bit different idea about timing than Christians.

This pretty well limits those worthy of the anti-Christ label to Islamists and the secular State Church.
