If his plane is hijacked, Don Detrich wants the attackers to know he will consider it his "patriotic duty to get up from my seat and kick ass."

As founder of the fledgling Flight Watch Hijacking Resistance League, Detrich has urged airline passengers to fight back, using weapons from ballpoint pens to beverage carts. As his message has spread from his Web site to media outlets from coast to coast, he's heard from dozens of potential recruits eager to get on board.

Be ready to fight and kick the terrorists!

Other people can go hand-to-hand with the sand goblins.

Myself, I really don't want to get infected with whatever Abdul has, so I prefer a 'hands off' approach.

Of course, since the airlines won't let me carry on board, I just won't fly. I'll drive and take whatever tools I deem necessary to defend myself.

I'd like to see someone start an organization for citizens to learn self-defense techniques that are tailor-made for defending against terrorists - on planes or where ever we may find the bastards. They could also give tips on avoiding situations where an attack is possible (I know - profiling), facts on bio, chemical and nuclear weapons, and much more advice - possibly even an introductory course on personal defense with a firearm, since guns sales are up now.

My proposed name for this organization?

The Beamer/Glick Society - in honor of two of the heroes of 9-11. I include Jeremy Glick partially because he practiced Judo - an art that if applied correctly, is an effective weapon against larger attackers.

Sounds good to me. The women already know what to do, kick that Arab in the groin, then kick him again on his way down to the floor! But you know, one main trouble would be getting to the perp in the narrow aisle. We might have to learn/practice climbing over seats/people to get to the perps!! We might not have time to wait for them to get near us. Any comments?!

I've been in enough fights on schoolbuses to know that the disadvantage of unarmed combat in close-quarters works both ways - if you can get within arm's reach of your opponent, he has very little room to evade your punches, kicks and grabs. He's soon cornered quickly. And you'd be surprised how fast a motivated person can hurdle several seats - forget using the aisle.

(That was my past - I've been walking the "peaceful path" - for now.)

Come at 'em from behind, drag them over the seat backward with a sideways twist to put them on the floor between your seat and the one they were in. (headlock preferred)

Wedge them sideways halfway between two seats if you have that style of seating, and never, never quit swinging.

I've been in a few of those dust-ups! Even better if you get them on the floor in the aisle, you can use the seats on either side to support your upper body and do damage with your feet.

To think, I spent over 100,000 miles of my life riding those d@mned things. Not every day was peaceful, by any means.

He's got a point. Things changed after 9/11 and hijackings that were once thought of as a nusanse or hostage/standoff type situation are now regarded by all to be unwanted participation in a mass murder.

People aren't going to take the hijackers at face value (we are just going to Cuba, Honest!) and they ARE definately going to resist.

With that in mind.. Why take my nailclippers?

Seriously.. I am SO SURE I am going to get up in front of a couple hundred people, brandishing them like a weapon and force them to do my bidding.

I has a steel Cross ink pen I could ram right through your heart.. no problem there.. But Nail Clippers? Sorry, you can't travel with those.
