over and out Remember the recent thread about pet peeves? Well here is mine:
You either say "over" or "out."
"Over" says that you are finished with what you are saying, but the conversation is not completed and you expect a response. "Out" says that the conversation is completed, and no response follows.
They only say "over and out" on teevee and in bad movies.
Don't take this personally -- I just needed to say it.
Semper911 Out.

Didn't something like this happen at AOL a couple of years ago?
To: LarryLied
Hmmm...no mention of a mother, father, wife, kids or girlfriend. Just a "friend" he spoke with at 7:30AM and "friends" who became concerned. Good Point. Can they find the contractor? Did the contractor arrive? If they can't trace the contractor, was the contractor, someone he met at a bar? There is some reason they waited so long to make this disappearance public.

Perhaps this is what happened:
Victim: What a beautiful day. I am going off to work at the most wonderful glorious company in the history of man, America On Line.
Contractor: I have been trying to disconnect from those AOLs for six months. Does anybody in that place answer the phone?
Victim: Well, it really makes no sense for you to disconnect from us. You see, we have driven twelve competitors out of business and have bought five more. So, how can I help you with your problem?
Contractor picks up large hammer and says: "I think I know what will make me feel better."

He thought it was the contractor, but he was wrong?
Maybe it was the guy delivering the contract.

"Could this be related to the missing microbiologist."Exactly what I was wondering...does anyone have any new news about the microbiologist?
To: cake_crumb
The Fox news creep (not a person, it's that thing on the bottom of the screen) said the FBI is now interested in the case.

Yep...I had seen on a different thread that the FBI became interested when they heard of Prof. Wiley's field of expertise. I hate having a lack of info.
To: cake_crumb
I guess we'll know if more "important" people start disappearing.

"I guess we'll know if more "important" people start disappearing."This makes me wonder...these terrorists have, on the one hand, a rather sophisticated understanding of Western cuture. On the other hand, they're shown an amazing lack of comprehension about Western culture.
For example: look at their utter shock that instead of breaking the United States, their September 11 attack has galvanized all the citizens of the US into a narrow focus: let's roll all over 'em. They truely didn't seem to foresee that their actions would sign their death warrents.
Now, this AOL exec: could it be possible that a terrorist group, with little understanding of the interaction between Americans and the Internet, kidnapped this guy because they thought he could provide a way to help them bring down our Internet telecommunications system?
I know it's a stretch, but AOL/Time Warner is SO high profile - though AOL absolutely SUCKS, IMHO - they may really believe that this guy can be used as a tool for cyber terrorism.
Rather ironic, but possible.
To: cake_crumb
Don't they do this in other countries with kidnappings? I think kidnapping businessmen is fairly common place in some parts of the world, now that we've let these people come here, it's probably going to be something we'll be seeing a lot more of.

I'm not saying yet that these 2 kidnappings are related to terrorists but a few weeks ago the government did warn us they had "credible evidence" there would be something happening and they even came out on tv and warned us, so I think everything is suspicious.

In the interest of full disclosure, it is now 1000 hours...
