Jacob's named was changed to Yisra'el (Israel) which means literally "to struggle with God". Maybe - but more likely is(h) - ra - el : literally; man- see - god.

Perhaps you don't understand the point that I and others are making: There is EXTRA-BIBLICAL evidence for the existence of David. That means evidence uncovered outside of the Bible. It's not a question of theology but archaelogy. And if you were ever to crack open a copy of Bible Archaelogy Review you would understand that publication takes no position regarding theological viewpoints. The publication only reports on archaelogical findings in Israel. The whole purpose of this thread is about the history of Israel not a belief-system.

My Hebrew is very rudimentary but all the information I've seen translate the meaning as "struggle" with God. Perhaps others here can be more definitive.
My point being that there is some evidence to suggest that the word Palestine may have derived from Israel and not Philistine. The whole point is rather silly because the Caananites were the one's displaced by the Exodus not the Philistines.

There's AFAIK nil for David and maybe some(but slight) for Solomon.
However, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
I got none to show, but I'd be interested in yours. Extra-biblical evidence that is.

Interestingly, reform Jews (aka the most liberal in oh so many ways) do not necessarily face Jerusalem and in fact may have their sanctuaries (temples) set up so the congregation does NOT face east toward Jerusalem (more specifically the Western Wall of the original Temple) while praying.

I've seen the stone, even touched it. The reference to DVD is still conjectural according to all archeologists and at this stage can't be established that it was THAT DVD.

The goal of Hamas and Islamic Jihad is NOT creation of a Palestinian state, but rather the absence of Israel (aka Jews) leaving for Palestinians the land, and infrastructure that Israel has developed from the deserts and swamps. Unfortunately, the Palestinians have no experience forming, developing, and running a government (unless it's a third world tribal dictatorship), and whatever remains (not likely to be much if Israel is facing annihilation), will not last or ultimately benefit the people all this is supposed to be for.
Very true. All one has to do is look at South Africa and Zimbabwe to see what happens to a civilization when the keys are taken from the builders and handed to those whose only talent is violence.

That would be the extra-biblical reference re: David to which I am referring (posts #49 and #53). I'm not sure your being fair in characterizing all archaeologists as remaining skeptical about the inscription. You sound very knowledgeable on this subject and therefore would be aware of the existence of references to Solomon. It is not a great assumption to think that if Solomon existed than so to did his father.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? - by KQQL
Which came first? The Chicken. In the beginning, when God created...
The chicken was created, and the egg came later.

Actually the brouhaha was about political statements included within a scientific report not about the implication of the genetics.

NOPE ! Only the representaive of the Roman Empire, Pontius Pilate , could send a man to his death. The Jews did NOT kll Jesus, nor did they " send HIM to HIS death." No matter what you may have been told, Pilate could have freed the Christ. The raid crowd was of no matter, and there ARE extant Roman records from and about Pilate.

ROFLOL!
Jerusalem was the capital of Israel for centuries before Christ and before Mohammed was a nightmare in his fathers eye -
TOO FUNNY! Thanks.

Stop being silly, SILLY ! I had NO hand in Christ's crucifiction, and neither did anyone alive today. HE died for my sins, but I did NOT crucify HIM.
