N.C. man linked to hijackers pleads guilty

GREENSBORO -- A Pakistani man federal officials have said is linked to hijackers in the Sept. 11 attacks pleaded guilty today to voter fraud.

Imtiaz Ahmed Siddiqui entered the plea in a brief federal court hearing in which no mention was made of the allegation that he may be acquainted with terrorists.

Siddiqui, 31, answering questions in halting English, admitted he claimed to be a U.S. citizen when he filled out a voter registration form in Durham in August, though he is actually a Pakistani citizen.

"Yes, I am," he said when U.S. District Judge James Beaty Jr., asked if he was guilty.

Defense lawyer Dan Boyce was speaking to Siddiqui's relatives immediately after the hearing and did not comment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas Cannon declined to discuss the case.

Sentencing was scheduled for March 14 in Winston-Salem. Siddiqui faces maximum penalties of three years in prison, a $250,000 fine and a year of supervised release.

Siddiqui was arrested Sept. 22 in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he had moved to take a new job, by the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the FBI. He was indicted Oct. 30 on voter fraud charges by a federal grand jury in Greensboro.

An FBI affidavit alleged Siddiqui had been in touch with one hijacker involved in the crash in Pennsylvania, his court-appointed Michigan lawyer said. The affidavit alleges Siddiqui visited an Internet travel site at the same time as the hijacker, and they may have communicated.

Siddiqui has a bond hearing scheduled for Friday afternoon. Boyce said in court papers that his client should be released because the FBI has no evidence to back up its claim.

AH HA!

Another Gore voter bites the dust.

Yet another reason to reform election laws. Sickening that this NON US citizen can vote just because he answers "Yes" when they ask him if he's a citizen. Even more sickening that it looks like he had some involvement with the highjackers. We look like morons in this country, not only opening our borders wide, welcoming terrorists with open arms, but also training them to kill us as well as letting them vote.

SHEESH!!!!! What's it gonna take for the powers that be to get a clue or for the sheeple to wake up and elect powers that be that have a clue in the first place.

It looks like the voter fraud issue is just their excuse to keep him behind bars legally until they can explore his involvement with terroists.

The headline is wrong. He is not a "North Carolina man." Rather, he is a Pakistani. Not one of us. The Kid.

Thanks for the bump, MKM.

When I hear stories like this, it just reinforces my perception that there are probably tens or hundreds of thousands of illegal citizens voting out there.
I wouldn't count on the Democrats to get behind any election reform efforts, though.
Naturally, they will decry any attempts as "racist", etc.

You're right, too... these non-citizen voters must be about 99% Gorons!!

I wonder if he was "speaking" to them in person, and if so, are they here legally?

Yup! Remember Gore's thousands at a time swearing in ceremonies in football stadiums? This is the result!
