If you are a Methodist Gun Owner, familiarize yourself with their alarmingly leftist views towards gun ownership, and GET INVOLVED with your local congregation. Let the UMC leadership know this is unacceptable. Your donations are being used to further the antigun agendas of people like Tom Diaz and Josh Sugarman - not exactly folks who share our values.

Being a Methodist, and having read their literature and news and attended their services, I can confirm what you are stating. Like many Christian denominations today, the Methodists seem to have adopted a left-wing, extreme liberal political aganda in place of the proper funtion of church, i.e. to lead its members to live better lives in keeping with Christ, and to obtain salvation.

Guns are merely ONE problem with Methodists today. The Methodist church supports gay rights, opposes drilling on the north slope of Alaska, supports the INternational Congress on Racism which Bush correctly refused to support, etc., etc.

Your suggestion about complaining is a good one, but personally, I feel the only real solution is to remove from policy making positions in these churches those leftist, socialist clergymen who support this type of agenda. They are unlikely to respond to complaints, opinion or withdrawal of funding.

If you're in the United Methodist Church (which I used to be), you may be interested in the Good News.

I've clearly been ignorant of the leftist leanings of the UMC, I was floored as I read the 2000 Resolutions. I can't imagine rank and file Methodists would support such an outright betrayal of individual liberty. Spiritual support of an agenda is bad enough, but to think that the money I've given the church - blissfully unaware of the Home Office's views as I worshipped in Texas - is being used in support of yahoos like "The Center To Prevent Gun Violence" is truly disturbing.

Methodists are liberals from what I've heard. Why should this surprise anyone?

Isn't it interesting how the denominations that the mainstream (biased according to Bernard Golberg) press calls "mainstream" are the fastest declining denominations in this country.

Do we still think female pastors are a good idea?

Our own RevNan, a female Methodist minister, proves that not all female Methodist ministers are leftists.

She may also want to comment on the main point of the first post in this thread (Methodist support of gun control) and the broader topic (leftward tilt of the United Methodists and numerous other denominations).

Down through the centuries, the powers entrenched in faith and force have combined to subjugate and enslave those around them -- Witch doctors and tribal chiefs, Mullahs and war-lords, KGB organizations and General Secretaries.

Individual freedom, as instituted in the United States, is a distinct departure from the faith/force formula; and those that endorse governmental systems involving faith and force are enemies of freedom.

well, seems as if they know the quality of their product. a church that achieved devotion from its followers would not feel the need to preach against inanimate objects, because it would be sure in the knowledge that it had adequately reminded congregants of the difference between right and wrong and the importance to one's immortal soul of keeping that distinction in mind.

We do not, however, interpret or elaborate regarding these statements. Doing so requires knowledge and expertise beyond that of our staff.

Ha, they have already crossed that line!!

This is one example of why I left the Methodist Church. Any church that would have Hillary! is no place for me! Strange, but the Catholic Church, such a big supporter of Marxist causes in the '60's and '70's has become one of the more conservative of the Christian sects, behind the Southern Baptists, of course. 99% of the credit for this should go to the current pope.

Rev. Marilyn Perrine

Support for abortion

Tiller the killer famous Kansas Abortionist
Dr. George Tiller has provided abortion services since 1973. He pioneered the use of sonogram imaging during surgery and other procedures that have been adopted as the standard of care for abortion providers nationwide.

The Rev. George Gardner, pastor of Wichita's College Hill United Methodist Church and an outspoken Tiller apologist, publicly admits to performing postmortem baptisms on Tiller's victims. If the deceased aren't babies with souls, what do these parents think they're baptizing? If they are babies with souls, why isn't this murder?

Homosexual views

Meeting in Casper, Wyoming, July 12-15, delegates from United Methodist churches in 12 western states vowed to work for the "full participation at all levels in the life of the church and society" for gays and lesbians.

Western United Methodist churches have been leading the fight for greater inclusion of gays and lesbians. In January 1999, 68 ministers participated in a same-sex union service for two lesbians. A church committee declined to press charges, and San Francisco Bishop Melvin Talbert said state church conferences could go against church law.
