Bone fish caught on the fly run about $1,500 a pound when you add the cost of travel and accomadation. $500 will get a pound of striped bass.

You posted, "$500 will get a pound of striped bass."

Stripers are cheap for us. My son uses our old 10 year old Suzuki, with his combo duck hunting/striper boat.

Between now and the end of Feb.. on a calm day (wind below 10 miles/hour)on the Delta here in Kali. It is not uncommon for him to catch and release 20 to 30 stripers from 15 to 35#'s. If I go, I catch about 1/2 of what he does. We only use 15# tippets so the really big egg layers and fertilizers break off. Also that keep them from wrapping a $100 fly line around a stump, tree or what ever. When we hook them, we bring them right on or break off the tippet. That way they aren't hurt, we don't lose $100 fly lines nor do we get hurt. If a fifty to sixty pound striper jumps into a 17 foot boat in a panic, he ain't the only one panicking! The only thing worse up here is an eight foot sturgeon in your boat. Their scales are like razors, and they can snap an oar with a swipe of their tail! My son has had a lot fun with a 50# Dorado in the boat after swallowing a fly and then having a shark chase it down in the Cabo region!
