We Were Soldiers -- The New Mel Gibson Epic
Quicktime Movie Trailers ^ | 12/09/01 | N/A

This is the trailer for the eagerly awaited Mel Gibson epic. Didn't see it posted before. The book is excellent -- but will the film be worthy?

GARRY OWEN, Sir

..March 1, 2001 is a "Roger" for ..'WE WERE SOLDERS'.. per RANDALL WALLACE himself just after showing us clips and movie preview trailers at our Annual IA DRANG Alumni Dinner in Washington, D.C. the night before Veteran's Day. The next morning found us at a pre-dawn ceremony in front of IA DRANG-1965's 3rd Panel of the Vietnam Wall wih Lt. Gen. HAL G. MOORE and JOE GALLOWAY taking turns in reading out the names of our KIA's in that week long battle ...with RANDALL WALLACE and his Paramount Studios Cameras looking on ...all by ourselves.

...Just like American Hero ..RICK RESCORLA.. at IA DRANG-1965, WTC-1993 and WTC-2001 we all sang ..'GOD BLESS AMERICA'.. and then finished with ..'AMAZING GRACE'..!

Perhaps you could call Hugh Hewitt, to help him plug this new trailer. Hint, hint. ;-)

Wow!

KIA's in that week long battle ...with RANDALL WALLACE and his Paramount Studios

Looks like Wallace, Gibson, Paramount and Co. are going to more than make up for the
goof-up (at least in light of 9-11) of not having a segment on Rescorla in the film!

Thanks for the personal report. Impressive and encouraging.

Just a suggestion...but if you still have the same impression on the film
in late February, you should call Hewitt and tell him (and his audience) about this...

does this mean that my favourite scenes, from Braveheart, Forever Young, and What Women Want,
were not really Mel's, but some body double?

Do it. It is worth the hassle of downloading Apple's new software to see soldiers in Viet Nam portrayed as HEROES.

The trailer reminded me of the VERY positive approach to that pro-astronaut movie, "The Right Stuff."

...I remember carrying a large yellow pre-printed sign with big black letters outside the Academy Awards that read...

..'FREEDOM: The Right to say -NO- to COMMUNISM'..

...and then getting it "All Down" for a Long Beach Press-Telegram Newspaper's LifeStyle Reporter's Article for the next day's Edition.

...Incidentally that Sign makes for one great Freeper Event Sign ...4-SURE.

...Plus WE won it for ..ELIA KAZAN.. on that day.

...ALL IN GOD's PLAN was I so Blessed to be invited to sit down at our IA DRANG Alumni Dinner with my fellow Landing Zone IA DRANG-1965 Artillery Heroes next to JOE GALLOWAY's Son. Our table was one removed from the Lecturn right next to the MOORES, the CRANDALLS, Gen. KINNARD and RANDALL WALLACE's Table on our right ...and ABC's JACK SMITH and -RICK RESCORLA's- Widow and Adult Daughter's Table on our left.

...Mrs. MOORE and I were seated back to back and after our stunning dinner was over she announced me to BRUCE CRANDALL, who I hadn't seen since 1965-66, as...

.."This is ALOHA RONNIE"... with Freerepublic.com there in Spirit 4-Sure. We are being read, folks.

UNFORGETTABLE

...Further Blessed was I to be able to go over to General HARRY W.O. KINNARD, our 1st Air Cav Commanding Officer, after our IA DRANG-1965 Dinner to personally thank him for greeting and thanking us back to our Division Base Camp to An Khe in November 1965 for our Victory at IA DRANG. (Slide Taken)

...This man, of "NUTS" at Bastogne Fame in World War II, just blushed and melted before my very eyes from being thank himself.

next to JOE GALLOWAY's Son

From the Newseum site...for lurkers who don't know that Joe Galloway as more than just
co-author of the book:

Joe Galloway spends two years as a combat reporter in Vietnam for United Press International.
In 1998, he's awarded the Bronze Star Medal with a combat V by the U.S. Army for rescuing wounded American soldiers under heavy fire in 1965.
Galloway co-authors "We Were Soldiers Once...and Young " (1992), an account of
the Vietnam War's first major battle.

And so should the awful clymer Tenet, who revealed his name, endangering Spann's family. This showboat Clinton holdover bureaucrat deserves a public horsewhipping for his malfeasance, incompetence, and general all-around worthlessness to the cause. Phooey!

ABC's JACK SMITH

I remember reading an opinion piece by him maybe 10 years ago.
It was a very "down" piece about war, so pessimistic and just a bit of a mention that
he'd served in Vietnam.

Then, sometime in the past year, someone posted a copy of his article that he wrote
for The Saturday Evening Post soon after his battle experience.

I'd only seen Moore and Galloway's book...never had read it. But Smith's article, in the
Saturday Evening Post(!), was SIMPLY HORRIFIC.
To consider that such an article wasn't censored AND was published while the conflict
was on-going is simply amazing (and a testimony to this country).

I've often thought about Mr. Smith when the up-coming movie is discussed in this forum.
I'm very happy to hear that he does attend the reunions...and I hope they
are a comfort to him and perhaps some consolation for the sacrifices he made many years ago.

...JOE GALLOWAY returns from Vietnam =

...Senior Writer ..U.S. NEWS & World Report.. till September 10, 2001

...Speech Writer for Secretary of State COLIN POWELL starting September 11, 2001

...It was JOE GALLOWAY who won the U.S. 7th Cavalry's Battle of NO GUN RI-2000 by exposing AP's lying series of Artilces about a non-existant Civilian Massacre under a Bridge in that War's opening weeks.

...AP's NO GUN RI Pulitzer Prize should have been taken back and given to JOE GALLOWAY 4-Sure.
