Rumsfeld's Rules (Vanity Request; anyone have the text/link)
Wall Street Journal | 12/10/2001 | Donald Rumsfeld

Posted on 12/10/2001 10:03:34 AM PST by mattdono

I apologize for the vanity, but I was wondering if anyone had a copy (text, link, HTML file, etc.) of this article Rumsfeld's Rules.

Sec. Rumsfeld had written it as an editorial and published it on WSJ.com (Wall Street Journal.com) shortly after he was confirmed. It was a real blueprint into how he would conduct himself and I think that it would speak volumes to anyone that would want to read it now, because (from what I remember) he has followed his principles to a "T". (Which is exactly what we should expect from President Bush's selection; the man drips integrity).

I was hoping one of my fellow FREEPERs had this article (either a link or the text). It was a fantastic article, I had it saved to my machine, but my hard drive bit the "Big One".

Rumsfeld's Rules
Advice on government, business and life.

BY DONALD RUMSFELD
Monday, January 29, 2001 12:01 a.m. EST

Many of these rules, reflections and quotations came from my role as chairman of the "transition team" for President Ford and my service as White House chief of staff. Others came from experiences as a U.S. naval aviator, a member of Congress, ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, secretary of defense, presidential Middle East envoy, business executive, chairman of the U.S. Ballistic Missile Threat Commission, and other experiences.

These reflections and quotations have been gathered over the past 40 years. Credit is given where known. As the quotation has it, "If it's not true, it's still well founded."--Unknown

Thanks for the ping. Excellent set of rules I can send out to several folks. His conference today with the Japanese minister was masterful. He even had the translator giggling.

You know, as I was reading these again, there were a few that popped. They made me think of exactly what was wrong with the Klintoon administration and exactly what is right about the Bush Administration:

On Serving in the White House:
- "...Strive to preserve and enhance the integrity of the office of the Presidency. Pledge to leave it stronger than when you came."

On Doing the job in the White House:
- "...Select the best, train them and back them...The country cannot afford amateur hour in the White House."

- "Force responsiblity down and out" (notice this only occurred during the Klintoon administration when there was a pending felony or indictment)

On Serving in Government:
- "Public servants are paid to serve the American people..."

- "The Federal Government should be the last resort, not the first" (this is a general distinction of panty-wetting liberals, not just the Klintoon's).

And, last, but not least, the one piece of advice that would have saved this country an awful lot of misery:
- "First law of holes: If you get in one, stop digging>"

A "Hear, Hear" bump and a bookmark. I first became aware of this list when I was reading Rumsfeld's biography posted via the Defense Dept. website. Some awesome advice to be had in here, and not just for those working in government.

Thanks, as always, Hipixs, for the ping!
