Zinni Gives Up On Arafat
IsraelNationalNews.com ^ | 12/11/01 | Staff Writer

American mediator Gen. Anthony Zinni, who met with Yasser Arafat yesterday, said about him, "I have never encountered such lack of trustworthiness in my life."

He said it was a "waste of time to try to reach a serious agreement with Arafat," and will concentrate on talking with other top figures in the PA - probably a reference to Muhammad Dahlan, Jibril Rajoub, and others.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon breakfasted today with the European Union's Javier Solana, expressing his satisfaction with the EU's call for the dismantling of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The EU's statement of yesterday also called upon Israel to freeze settlement activity in Judea and Samaria. Sharon said that Israel is anxious to fulfill another EU request by easing some restrictions upon the Palestinian population, but "the unceasing terrorism makes this difficult."

If this is a real quote we might just be able to get some peace in our time.

That's the kind of Mid-East mediator I like.

I think it is time for Zinni to replace Powell.

Considering Arafat arranged to have him blown up, what took Anthony Zinni so long to reach the obvious conclusion? If he were half the Marine he is he would have taken a pistol and shot the lying scum dead. Where the heck is "Semper Fi??"

Wow, a plain, but well, spoken man.

How many hours before the State Department comes out with an announcement of what he "really" meant?

Gotta love it. It takes career diplomats a lifetime to figure this out (and most never do). It takes a former Marine less than a week on the job to come to a conclusion that the most people already know.

"I have never encountered such lack of trustworthiness in my life."

I guess he has never talked to a Clinton.

Amen to that. Should have happened long ago. He has American blood on his hands from his earlier dealings. The very idea of our nation approving of and negotiating with this murder is an assault on decency and the senses.

Apparently it took a direct attempt on Zinni's life to get down to brass tacks.

It's apology time.

It appears you were mistaken with regard to the quote. Do you have enough integrity to practice what you preach?

Zinni certainly did NOT utter this publicly. He may have said it privately, though the rather sparse news item gave no indication of how they came to know about this. I can't give this report much credence.

Is this the Jewish version of Debka?

I find it fairly improbable that the General would have said this.

If he did, he has no business being over there.
