The left-wing group that calls itself People for the American Way got the shock of its life when it honored peacenik Canadian rocker Neil Young - and he said President Bush's anti-terrorism measures were necessary.
"We can't forget what brought us together and what we're living for, what makes us who we are, even though to protect freedom it seems that we're going to have to relinquish some of our freedoms for a short period of time," Young said Tuesday at the limousine-liberal group's annual dinner in (where else?) Beverly Hills.
More than a few eyebrows were raised, Reuters news agency reported Wednesday.
"It is a law that we get a chance to get them back. It's very important not to forget that.
"It's a tough time for all of us who believe in a certain way of life to come to grips with the fact that we have to kind of make a - what do you call it - this word's hard for me - I think it's - compromise. That's right. But it's temporary, and we can't forget that it's temporary. We're going to do the job, and then we're going to get back to being who we are."
Young, who received the outfit's "Spirit of Liberty lifetime achievement award," recently had the blame-America-first left grumbling when he recorded the song ''Let's Roll'' as a tribute to the doomed passengers who overpowered their hijackers over Pennsylvania on Sept. 11.
Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of ``South Park'' and the failed "That's My Bush!" sitcom, also had the whine-and-cheese GWLs (Guilty White Liberals) gasping when Parker said they were proud Republicans. ``It's true," said Parker, dressed in a garish stars-and-stripes suit.

I think they were probably just taunting the crowd. I believe those two are solid Libertarians.
Hey, did anybody see last nights All Butter ("That's me.") episode. It was a little too creepy in the beginning, but I was laughing my ass off when they went into full Ramsey-Condit-OJ bashing mode. Condit looked like a guilty corpse! Great stuff!

Did you notice that at the end Stan, Kyle and Cartman showed up, but Kenny didn't? There's been some speculation online since last week's "Kenny Dies" episode that it wasn't just a half-hour extension of the same old joke, but that he's really and truly GONE this time. I thought they were all nuts, but now I'm not so sure.

Absolutely not! Have you ever watched South Park? About the only thing you can be sure of from that show is that they hate liberals. They really really really hate liberals.

I have to admit I do not watch South Park on a regular basis. Only watch it with my bro in law every now and then.
To: Timesink
I did notice that, but didn't put any meaning into it. Kenny always really dies. They just keep making new Kennys.

I always thought they were liberal blowhards. Guess you never watched an episode! They are all centered around Liberal themes only to reveil later how utterly stupid their ideas are! If you ever get to see tehhe Class President episode with Ike running for President and the slap Mr. Hand made to Rosie O'Donnell, you would change your mind

Here is the brand new Neil Young song honoring the heroes on flight 93:
Let's Roll
by Neil Young
I know I said I love you,
I know you know it's true,
I got to put the phone down,
And do what we gotta do.
One's standing in the aisle way,
Two more at the door,
We got to get inside there,
Before they kill some more.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
No time for indecision,
We got to make a move,
I hope that we're forgiven,
For what we gotta do.
How this all got started,
I'll never understand,
I hope someone can fly this thing,
Get us back to land.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
No one has the answers,
But one thing is true,
You got to turn on evil,
When it's comin' after you.
You got to face it down,
And when it tries to hide,
You got to go in after it,
And never be denied.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Let's roll for freedom,
Let's roll for love,
Goin' after Satan,
On the wings of a dove.
Let's roll for justice,
Let's roll for truth,
Let's not let our children,
Grow up fearful in their youth.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Time is runnin' out, let's roll.
Listen to it here. It is not on any CD, it is a new release.

My wife saw Gene Simmons of KISS on "The View" and he said, "Hey, when they come after your family, you go get them. You don't fool around," or strong words to that effect.

I always thought that it was a piece of liberal s^%# show, from all the stories and comments on the show -- about how gross, vile, disgusting it was.
Then I watched it, and to my delight, it is sooo good at slamming liberal idealogy.

Is this the same Neil Young that dedicated his song "Piece of Crap" to George W. Bush?

These guys would tell a Jew they're Nazi's, and would tell Muslims they were Jews... They'll say anything to get a rise outta someone, in other words.
I don't really hold the two in high regard. The very first episode of South Park was mildy amusing, though.

I remember Neil Young raising more than a few eyebrows in the 80s when he announced he supported Reagan because "we need to keep America strong."

The absolute BEST episode of "South Park" is the "save the rainforest" episode where their new hippie teacher makes them take a field trip to Columbia to save the rainforest, they end up getting lost, attacked by local floral, fauna, and indigeous people, and are finally saved by a group of heroic white american construction workers who are clear cutting the rainforest. The final credits contain "facts" about how many deaths per year are caused by the rain forest.

That was back in June. With all the brain cells "old Neil" has destroyed in his lifetime, I'd be suprised if he remembers what he had for breakfast today. ;)

As is the case with many people, the older you get and as you gain the knowlege of lifes experiences, the more conservative and hawkish you become. I always liked Young for his music and now I can appreciate another good quality.

You don't fool around," or strong words to that effect Gene Simmons is an interesting fellow. I saw him on Politically Incorrect and Maher was asking him various questions about tax cuts and if he thought that taxes on the wealthy were too high and he said Why should he give the money he has worked so hard for to people who don't give a damn and do not want to do anything to better their lives financially. Also, Gene probably doesn't mind blowing up a muslim or two since he is Jewish. His real name is Chiam Mitz and immigrated from Israel when he was six. He also used to be a sixth grade school teacher. Go figure.

Why does it shock people when liberals (and that's what Young, Stone, Parker, et al truly are) endorse a policy that will increase government intervention and conrol and erode individual liberties?
To: dead
"They're environmentalists, they won't listen to logic or reason."
One of the many occasions I was thankful I taped the show so I could rewind and see the parts I laughed through. Parker and Stone are pretty hardcore. They don't agree often with the social conservative front, but even on those issues they seem to think the liberals are either more wrong or at best right for all the wrong reasons (or through all the wrong methods).

We've got a thousand points of light, for the homeless man, we have a kinder gentler machine gun hand Neil Young is a political independent who did not like Bush the elder. Then again, neither did I.
BTW: Rust Never Sleeps is the greatest "heavy metal" album of all time, even though most metalheads never consider it.

Don't get too excited. Most liberals with even the brain of a common flea have figured out that Bush's policies are necessary to eradicate this threat.
And the rest... well they have no brain.

you need to watch the episode wher Cartman says "I hate hippies" as they bash the save-the-rainforest-ecofreaks. Or see them bash barbara streisand.

Welfare mothers/Make better lovers I never got that song. I dunno about Rust Never Sleeps being a great "metal" album, but it does certainly rock. I think Neil's heaviest Crazy Horse stuff is on Everybody Knows This is Nowhere - "Down by the River" and "Cowgirl in the Sand."
Two of my favorite albums, and I also love After the Gold Rush. Oh yeah, this is a political website...

That's great! Neil has always been my favorite American rocker. (The WHO my favorite Brit. rock band.) He might seem like a lib, he may even call himself one, but I've always seen his POV to be more of a smack against BS than a particular political view. Hope my 'puter will play that .wav.

If you watched the show. I have and its funny as all hell. They make fun of the stupid idea of hate crime laws (devoted a whole show to the joke) and have made fun of celeberties who are all liberals.
Social Conservatives or moralists no. However that does not make you a liberal democrat otherwise the republican party would be the size of the reform party.

Here is another item to contribute to observations of the apparent rocker trend towards libertarianism/conservatism.
On mainstream TV channels recently there have been some ad spots that offer folks an opportunity to send a video greeting to troops fighting in the Afghanistan operation, or overseas, or both. The cover music is "River", from the album "Blue":
It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down the trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing Christmas songs of joy and peace
Oh, I wish I had a river
That I could skate away on
...
I would imagine that they could not use the music without Mitchell's permission. I do not know her politics but I would be surprised if she was not a pacifist, at least in the past.

South Park has always been about making fun of stupid people and stupid ideas which is why they are always going after Babs, Rosie, hate crime legislation, those horrible "people" who want to have sex with children, Janet Reno,... the list goes on and on. Sure once in a while a conservative idea is skewered but for the most part its the liberals and thier ideas taking it in the a$$.

What pride is there in claiming membership in a political party that has no chance of any major political success? The LP is a dead animal. Any Libertarians with brains realize that the way to effect change in Washington is to work within the two party system. Ron Paul has figured that out. Why haven't you all?
