Democrats, in the name of tolerance, plan to demonize conservative Christians as being like the Taliban, according to an article in Newsweek.

Democrats "are planning a daring assault on the most critical turf in politics: the cultural mainstream," political correspondent Howard Fineman writes.

I am afraid that as more time passes, it will be easier for the dems to demonize Chrisitians. It isn't a new plan, after all, who wanted to hold bubba to high standards?

Well, unfortunately many Americans will return to bad habits over a period of time. However, it took many years, decades in fact, for the US to reach the height of frivolity and fakery that were the Klinton years. I am a little more optimistic after the reactions and attitudes I see after 911.

As far as demonizing Christians, the left and the democrats will continue to do that in universities and other hidden venues, but an outright assualt by the party is most likely not going to happen because it would be shooting themselves in the foot.

I thought the 'Old Grey Lady' was the Dem Party's 'House Organ'.

No joking, the 'Poshington Waste' actually was the D*ms' paper, way back when the 'Times Herald' and the 'Evening Star' were the major papers in DC.

"Comparing the religious Christian right to the Taliban simply won't pass the suspension of disbelief test with most Americans " -Torie

"Democrats aren't stupid. They're very clever and have some intelligence. If they try to do this they can kiss goodbye to ever winning an election again. Period. " - ChicagoRepublican

"I find it hard to believe that even the Democrats would be dumb enough to use the "religious right" as a campaign issue when the states that are up for grabs this year have a large number of Catholic swing voters or evangelical Christians " -Holden Magroin

Someone said, "no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American population". Clinton rose to power in 92 by an aggressive and well-organized assault while the senior Bush administration was in deep denial.

I don't think half the people here can even articulate a good defense of the Taliban charge. What's more disconcerting is that most here don't even see its appeal.

Perhaps they didn't grow up among peers lampooning the caricature of a sexually repressed, perpetually constipated and out of control religious fundamentalist blaming all his problems on the lack of morals, values and discipline in kids today. Perhaps they've only dismissed, but never deconstructed liberal intellectual arguments that tolerance, cultural balance and social integration are every bit as important as being technically right. The Taliban analogy may hit home with all those that have been exposed to the culture of the left.

1) Don't repeat the mistake of Bush senior in underestimating the appeal of a well-run Democrat attack.
2) Don't repeat the mistake of Congress believing that America had changed after the Republican revolution of 92.

I think the Taliban comparison will be effective unless a well-organized defense or counter attack is made. But people here are right in your thinking that if the trigger is pulled with this thing, Democrats will be vulnerable to a well organized counter attack. But they can only be made to look small and vindictive if a serious and persistent effort from the top down is made to discredit them, to label them as small obstructionist partisans who are full of hate.

I think that there should be a phrase of some kind that's as succinct and as powerful as "Taliban" that's repeated so much that whenever Taliban is thrown out, the counter automatically comes to mind.

The Pope has been quoted as saying that Muslims will go to heaven. That is directly against Scripture. This has been covered here on FR many times. Too many Cathollics get mad when it is pointed out, so you dont see it much more.

The Dems won't do it. They are not suicidal idiots. Whomever is pushing this scenario is on crack on this one IMO.

Sorry Torie, I disagree. The democRATS are desperate enough to try exactly this. In fact, I've already heard some of this floated on Chicago talk radio.

The democRATS are struggling to find a way to break President Bush's 85%+ approval rating. The highest and longest sustained approval rating in history!

They're already "breaking" down in desperation. Little Tommy Dasshole's proclamation "thank God the Democrats are here to stop this economic stimulus" hasn't been sitting well with some of the more "moderate" democRATS. Zell Miller is reportedly ready to jump ship, or at least declare his Independent Status. Jumping Jim Jeffords is likewise disillusioned with how he's been treated since he GAVE control of the Senate to Little Tommy Dasshole, since his two pet programs - dairy subsidies for Vermont and Special Education funding - have both hit the trash bin.

I say, the demoncRATS are stupid desperate enough to try this. And as with about every stupid move they've made in 2001, President Bush will be there to punch 'em square in the nose. :)

Thanks for the bump. Scary to think that they'd be so bold.

Why ? You have read the stuff they write here about Christians. They slander someone and never bother to flag them so they can't speak in there own defense. They drag discussions from one thread to another...but cry when someone does it to them.

Alot of Christians right here on FR have been called the Talibon..this is where it started..

There is a distinction between being a conservative Christian remaining faithful to one's beliefs and someone who considers themselves to so morally superior they are qualified to sit in judgement of the rest of the human race.

Wha I have found is that a conservative Christian who is outspoken and declares sin to be sin is typically condemned and accused of "sitting in judgment of the rest of the human race."

Now please note: no stones are thrown, no blood is drawn, no person is imprisoned or fined. Yet the outspoken conservative Christian is accused of "sitting in judgment of the rest of the human race." In truth, he is discerning evil and shining a light on it. And it includes himself. The execution of sentence--the real and full meaning of "judgment"--is reserved solely to God.

The gambit is designed to intimidate conservative Christians into shutting up and allow the corruption of the nation, its morals, and its rising generations to proceed apace.

There is no acknowledgement of any doctrinal similarity and both are largely statments acknowledging Islam's monotheism and that truly devout Muslims who seek God and are ignorant of the Gospel may receive salvation

Think, though. You miss the most basic point here. Did Jesus die for our sins? Islam teaches He did NOT die.

Was Jesus resurrected for our Justification like the Bible teaches? Islam teaches that he didn't even die, let alone raise from the dead.

Is Jesus the Son of God? Islam teaches that God had no Son.

'The basics of Islam teach that Christianity is a lie, so it is immaterial what the sincerity of an islamic believer is, they are condemned to hell without Christ.

They didn't tolerate witches either.....whoops!, she drowned, our mistake, she wasn't a witch. There is a distinction between being a conservative Christian remaining faithful to one's beliefs and someone who considers themselves to so morally superior they are qualified to sit in judgement of the rest of the human race.

But of course you are not judging them are you? That is the joke about all of this..the "non judgemental" are so busy being judgemental that they can not even see what they are doing. The Nazis used fear and hatred to do to the Jews what many on this forum would like to do to Christians.

The Taliban smothers free speech..that is there stongest weapon..and that is exactly what some here and the left want to do..

BTW Where is Barry's church ?

Out from under their rock. Finally admitting what we knew all along. Democrats HATE the military. Democrats HATE Christians. Democrats Hate.

At the risk of getting flamed, I'm going to be a little contrarian on these points. Like the wiseguys in Mob flicks who say "Nothing personal ... it's just business", the Democrats don't care about or hate anything--really. They simply see attacks on their enemies as a way to increase and consolidate their political power. The difference is that, while we on the Right recognize their hegemony for what it is, they disavow what they are doing and offer us explanations that they are merely trying to "protect the children and seniors". They know they are lying. They know the endgame. They know the goal. And yet they still don't care what it takes to get there. Now that is what angers me about them; that they are willing to do almost anything in order to gain more political power. I don't believe the Right is willing to sacrfice its soul for seats in Congress and the presidency.

The DemocRats are finding out that there is no rating in the leftist agenda. The proof is Geraldo Rivera. He spent a couple of years singing to the coire, and finally jumped ship.

The right wingers, by that I don't mean the Christian nuts or Jewish orthodox with their dingiling sideburns, need to invade and take over another network

Once we made the right side of the issue a main stream idea, the left will commit suiside!
