Democrats, in the name of tolerance, plan to demonize conservative Christians as being like the Taliban, according to an article in Newsweek.

Democrats "are planning a daring assault on the most critical turf in politics: the cultural mainstream," political correspondent Howard Fineman writes.

RB,

The point I was making was about a statement about the Catholic church and refuting the absurd notion that it was embracing Islam, not defending the whole of Pope Paul VI's view.

If I may speak to it, though, the statements seem to deal directly with those Muslims in ignorance of Christ. The fact is that Jesus can save anyone He wants and neither you nor I will have anything to say about it.

It is a very Protestant sentiment, salvation is via grace alone and is based in a personal relationship with God.

I am well aware of Islam's shortcomings and heresies and I'm sure the Pope was as well. The statement carefully dealt with "Muslims", not "Islam".

Perhaps they didn't grow up among peers lampooning the caricature of a sexually repressed, perpetually constipated and out of control religious fundamentalist blaming all his problems on the lack of morals, values and discipline in kids today.

Todays problems ARE caused by lack of morals.
The Ten Commandments say obey your parents, not rebel against them. No killing, therefore less murders. No adultry, therefore less divorce, fatherless children or aids. No stealing, less gun roberries...the list goes on.
If the Ten commandments were obeyed, it would be a paradise on earth.
The Ten commandments could replace the thousands, if not millions, of failing laws written in an attempt to replace them.

Everything liberalism stands for is satanic, i.e., anti-Biblical. That's the only reason they hate us.
They have a different God, as does Bin Laden. Their gods are one and the same. Both meant to destroy, rather than save, mankind.

Wha I have found is that a conservative Christian who is outspoken and declares sin to be sin is typically condemned and accused of "sitting in judgment of the rest of the human race."

You are correct of course, in that the left wants to blur the distinction between someone who declares a sin a sin and someone who considers themselves morally superior and qualified to judge.

For example, they want to equate a conservative Christian who is outspoken regarding abortion with the extremists that would bomb an abortion clinic, killing and maiming others in the name of God.

Unfortunately, sometimes Christians (the ones I refer to as the religiously intolerant sect of Christians) provide great assistance to those who are attacking them and all Christians. Take for example the book burning incident in New Mexico recently. I don't agree with those that were involved, and I know they feel they were right, BUT if I'm Joe Average Citizen sitting home watching the network news I don't need Dan Rather or Peter Jennings to put an opinion in my head. Joe Average is going to equate book burning to something Nazis or Communists do. They are going to have that 'gut reaction' and they are going to tune out anything else the Christians involved have to say. And then the Rather's and the New york Times break out the 'brush' and paint ALL Christians as the same .... religious kooks.

The moral is, don't give the enemy ammunition to use against you! Thanks to the religiously intolerant sect of Christians out there, if I tell someone I'm a God fearing Christian, they look at me like I three eyes in my head.

So how would they excuse a mother Earth worshiper who kills someone by buring down a building they think is hurting their Earth God?

How could they excuse aborting an innocent soul by placing the mother on an abortion alter and have the child pulled out by an abortion priest in the name of love for self?

How can they excuse the theft of wages of the working class to allow those who sloth a grander life? What have they done to earn our gift?

How can they possibly explain anything they do as "right?"

I'm not going to take the time to try to convence you of this, but the way you phrased your last post is generally not effective in persuading those that don't already agree with you. In fact the statement that I quoted is so hateful, ignorant and obnoxious that I'm tempted to believe that you're just playing with me. Unfortunately I've seen several people that stupid here so I suspect you're for real.

My mother is an 83 yo evangelical Christian in every sense of the word, and she's also retired schoolteacher and a liberal. So you're telling me that she's an anti-biblical satanic evangelical Christian.

Sit down and have a talk with a clergyman that you respect!

Yup, it's been awhile since the left has attacked the right as extreme. It worked before, they probably think it will work again. It probably will. People who do not outright cheat, steal, and deceive normally have a hard time conceptualizing that the others side will, or do. They will, and they are. As is said, truth is the first casualty of war.

In the physical realm (politics) and certainly in the spiritual realm (light against dark, honest against lie, good against evil, God against not) this is basically a war. The side of our enemy is relentless. Ours tends not to be, but generally needs provocation to be stirred to action. It happens over and over.

I have often wondered if the conflict between the religious left and the conservative side will ultimately be decided on a battlefield (physical). If extrapolated out, I don't see how it cannot.

But I've read the back of the book; in the end we win.

"and I will make them to come and worship before you, and to know that I have loved you."

That was not spoken by Nostrodamus, liberal voters, or Edgar Caycee, or Mahatma Ghandi, or Gautama Buddha, or even Islam's Mohammed. Jesus said it.

Nope, the left's attack on the right for being extreme is continuous, and visa versa. The Taliban charge is just the latest. And if the right was filled with people who said stupid things like: " Everything liberalism stands for is satanic, i.e., anti-Biblical. That's the only reason they hate us" while promoting the inevitability of physical war with the left, the Taliban comparison would be absolutely perfect.

You really need to do less talking and more listening for awhile.

Thanks for the ping...I guess. I wasted my entire lunch hour thinking there would be some interesting comments. I read every stinkin' one, in fact, only to see this thread degenerate into the tired old Catholic-bashing, "my religion is better than your religion" poor excuse of a thread.

The dems got what they wanted. We have supposedly like-minded people hurling feces at one another again.

***Yawn*** - wake me up when it's over.....

"but I despise the heirarchy of the RCC, because it has been lying to the very people who come to it looking for truth for over 1,700 years! JMHO. YMMV."

Uh uh. This won't cut it. Basically you are saying I and millions of Catholics are stupid. We are stupid because we are being lied to and don't know it. And you are calling our shepherds and our pastors deliberate liars. This IS Catholic bashing. And it is very insulting.

I do not agree with Billy Graham that salvation is by faith alone, but I know that he teaches this because with all his heart he thinks it is right and good and correct and pleasing to God. I respect him tremendously. But you don't give my Church leaders the same respect and the same benefit of the doubt. You assume they lie on purpose.

Matthew 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

I dont see any big shock...

Many of the morons here on Freerepublic.com have tried to equate real Christians with the Taliban i.e. "Talibornagain".

This isnt a drive pressed on by Democrats alone...

No...this is a contrarian, rebellious movement that crosses political borders. It will resonate with many Libertarians and so called independants...it will help to cleanse the Conservative ranks of those only motivated by rebellion.

Eitherway...

Jesus reigns. Persecution is promised to us Christians. Nothing new...nothing to be moved by.

Just think about this - when was the last time a Hollywood film actually portrayed a conservative Christian who was not an evil fiend? Or a Homosexual who was not a saint?

Ever see, "Thanks of a Grateful Nation"? It is the SHOWTIME story of Gulf War vets that came home sick. One of the characters is a Born Again beolievers, and he even gives out Bibles. He is the ONLY Christian I ever saw portrayed in a nice manner in any recent movie of the last 30 years that I can remember.
