State Police Release Tape of Hijacker's Traffic Stop Two Days Before Terror Attacks The Associated Press Published: Jan 8, 2002 PIKESVILLE, Md. (AP) - A videotape of one of the Sept. 11 hijackers being pulled over for speeding two days before the attacks was released Tuesday by Maryland State Police, who said there were "no red flags" to justify detaining the man.

Ziad S. Jarrah was "extremely calm and cooperative" during the stop, and Trooper Joseph Catalano saw no reason to keep him, said Col. David B. Mitchell, the superintendent of state police.

"There were no circumstances to question the gentleman more than we did," Mitchell said.

On the tape, Catalano can be seen telling Jarrah he was pulled over for going 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. After a few minutes, Catalano returns and tells Jarrah the fine is $270, gives him a few instructions on how to pay the fine and tells him he is free to go. Jarrah is never seen in the tape.

"No red flags at all," Catalano said. "It was a routine traffic stop."

FBI agent Michael Clemens said Jarrah was not on any federal lists of suspected terrorists at the time of the stop.

Jarrah, identified as one of the four hijackers on United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania, had a valid visa, Clemens said. Mitchell also said Jarrah had a valid Virginia driver's license.

More proof, that our immigration policies are a complete "free for all".

Another hijacker, the head terrorist -- Mohammed Atta -- was also stopped by police for a traffic violation, and he was issued a ticket and given a court date, in Broward County, FL.

The above stop happened in May. He never showed up in court, and they never went after him. It ws reported in the Ft. Lauderdale newspapers.

Well, at least this ba**ard was on Flight 93. This means that he saw the resolve of American patriots prior to dying and going to hell.

Too bad good Moslems don't drink. If the police had suspected alcohol ( instead of just going NINETY MILES PER HOUR ) the jerk would have had to walk to Boston , that is if he was not still locked up on 9/11!

Too bad good Moslems don't drink. Some of them did drink, supposedly in attempt to blend in better with American culture. Too bad this wasn't one of the times they were doing so.

Why should a foreign man going 90 MPH just be allowed to move along?

What should have been done differently?

Well lets see, we have been warned for years that the United States will be subject to terrorist attacks, specifically from people from mid eastern countries.

The United States has its head up every other nations ass on earth.

We have watched hundreds of news events of mid eastern types burning American flags on the news for *many years*.

We have watched our military combat ships BOMBED in the mid east just a few months prior to this incident,

Several years earlier a couple hundred of our military personnel were blown to bits while sleeping in their barracks etc etc etc.

Our authorities have known for *years* that the United States was a target of terrorism, and it still is!

This, in my opinion is just another example of our out of control, immigration "free for all". I for one, am calling for the end of this open border madness!

I guess I'm being thick. What should have happened during this stop? Should we all be required to present proof of citizenship when we are pulled over? What would be used to indicate citizenship? A Driver's License? A passport? BTW--I do agree that our immigration policies are a free for all, I'm just not sure what could be done in this particular instance.

Oh and don't forget the World Trade Center had already been attack once by *mid easterners*.

I feel hell of a lot more should have been done considering the above. This is what happens with open borders and this immigration "free for all".

This idiot should have been detained for at least 72 hours and a background investigation should have been conducted considering the security threat above. There are many things that I haven't mentioned the many other things *our authorities* have been aware of for years as far as credible threats to our national security go. There have been many.

Yet another example of how traffic law enforcement is a revenue enhancement scheme and is not conducted for the good of public safety. Send in your $270 and all is well...with the state of Maryland anyway.

That speed on a California freeway would get you a ticket for reckless driving. Anything over 80mph is viewed as a serious violation. The fine quoted is miniscule for the speed. But then it is Maryland, so it figures. They have more important things to do, like keep Santa Claus from coming to town.

Read post number 15.

How much evidence does American need before we no longer conduct our business as usual? Please know, that many in the intellegence community and law enforcement officials on the higher end of the food chain, have known for years that this WTC type attack attack has long been expected and many were not surprised when it did happen. Hell bells, they all ready tried to collapse one of the towers several years ago.

How soon many people forget. (Not you).

Out of all that text, I think this is the only recommendation:

This idiot should have been detained for at least 72 hours and a background investigation should have been conducted considering the security threat above.

I was just curious. The officer had no right to do that though, did he?
