Help! Anyone having trouble logging in from second or third computer?
1/8/02 | Neanderthal

I can only log into FreeRepublic from one of the two computers that are networked at home. I can lurk from the other one but can't post.

I can't log in from my office computer either (can only lurk). This just started yesterday. Any ideas on how to fix this?

This is a terrible situation . . . . to be forced to lurk powerlessly instead of composing brilliant replies and posts . . .

Issue with cookies perhaps? Can't you still login from the main page?

You might try copying the cookie file from the browser on the computer that works and use it to replace the cookie file in the other computers browser.

Yes, it is probably an issue with the cookie on the computer that can't log on. I have three computers networked here at home and each can log on fine.

No, that doesn't work either. I'll start looking at the cookies . . .

I think FR is in the process of blocking access to people who post vanities in Breaking News. Soon you will not be able to log on from any of your computers.

Nope, I'm fine. I even thought about posting that the Gators have a new head coach, but sports seems like a waste of bandwidth to me.

You might have a problem if you are already logged on to FR with one of the networked computers. Shut 'em down and try it. If that doesn't work, you may have to delete all cookies and start over with a fresh login.

Why is this breaking news?.

Most computer problems reside someplace between the keyboard and the back of the chair.

Being that you are one of those with a number in the 7000s did you perhaps back in the olden days go in and change your HOSTS file when that info was making the rounds on FR. If so that maybe your problem.

Also you may try the IP numeric address.
