Hit hard by a slumping economy that has lowered donations and increased demand for services, the United Way in Chicago on Friday eliminated 28 positions, or 20 percent of its workforce, a move the agency's leader said could soon be repeated in United Ways across the country.

With roughly a month left in its annual campaign, the Chicago agency projects it will miss its $95 million goal, a number that had been scaled back twice after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The cuts will save an estimated $2 million by July 1, when the United Way distributes its funds.

I for one, hope that this is the beginning of the end for a corrupt, extortionist, corporate boo-bunny "charity."

Good Riddance to "United Way" and their arm-twisting tactics of getting corporations to extort money from their employees for them.

May "United Way's" entire board of directors rot in hell.

A couple of United Way fundraising thermometers around here seem to have gotten stuck at about 80%. Good.

Yeah, falling donations have NOTHING to do with their support of Planned Fetuscide and their dropping of the BSA. Nope. Not at all.

Good Lord! The heads of this organization might have to turn in their $1,000/month leased cars, cut their purchases of $,4,000 suits, trim their purchase of the higher grades of cocaine/marijuana, give up three girl friends (and the occasional boy). There will not be as many trips to Europe-to see how their charities work, of course; credit card purchases-expense account of course-will have to be cut at lesast $25,000 per month to $45,000 per month. Real hardship.
