19:07 18/02/2002 Last update - 19:17 18/02/2002 Woman killed, two soldiers injured in Gaza Strip shooting attack By Amos Harel, Ha'aretz Correspondent and Ha'aretz Service An Israeli woman was killed Monday evening and two soldiers were lightly wounded in a shooting attack in the Gaza Strip. The attack was an ambush that took place on the road between the Gush Katif bloc of settlements and the Kissufim crossing into Israel. According to initial reports, the gunman was also killed. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the shooting ENOUGH IS ENOUGH SHARON .............
The terrorist blow himself on the Ambulances.
:-(
I agree. The forecast for Israel today was partly cloudy with an 80% chance of widely scattered terrorist attacks.
Dear friends,
This is a brief note to ask for prayer.
The terrorism is increasing.
In the last 24 hours Israel has sucessfully stopped 5 suicide bombers attempting to enter Jewish cities to spead death and destruction.
Last night two of these were killed wither by their own explosives or by the police as they tried to detonate them selves. Three were successfully arrested.
It is now 6:10 pm here in Jerusalem. I just arrived home by taxi with Bethany. She has walked to my office to meet me after she was done with projects at school. I had just finished the first day of the International Board Meeting of Bridges For Peace. This began 7 days of non-stop meetings, reporting, planning and training sessions.
As Bethany and I were in the Taxi, our driver Albert, began to translate for us the Hebrew News announcement that we were not understanding.
A terrorist had just exploded himself a few minutes before we got into the taxi. This happened on the road from Jerico to Jerusalem.
The car was stopped by police and the computer confirmed it was stolen. The police then told the driver to leave the car. He did so and immediately detonated the bomb in the car. One of the police was killed and three were woounded.
It was difficult for Albert the taxi driver to listen and translate for us. He shared that he retired from the police force only a few months before this wave of violence began. He worked as an Israeli police in Ramalha (the PA controled city where the two israeli soldiers were lynched..) for 20 years. He could only say that it has all changed, it is no longer the city he knew. He was worried as he will know the policeman who was killed as they are all his friends.
We arrived in our neighborhood of Gilo to find that it was under attack by Terrorists shooting from Beit Jala....
So I will close now and ask for your prayers - for Safety and for wisdom in this week of meetings.
Shalom from Jerusalem
The logistical difficulties inherent in fighting in some of these isolated countries (like Iraq or Afghanistan) undoubtedly has something to do with the apparent lazy pace (though no offensive from a western nation will ever occur during an Olympic Games anyway). And that is maybe also why the U.S. appears to fear a general explosion of war in the Middle East. Perhaps this is another reason that Bush said that we would fight covertly with great operational secrecy -- that we may not know of things that are actually occurring.
The stress on the military, police, populace and medical response staff is going to be such that Israel won't be able to hold back much longer without the population wanting to strike back for real.
There will come a time shortly that the people of Israel will realize that the constant attacks aren't mere acts of terrorism anymore but a constant assault that makes up a war front.
Then they will go to war.
