Gun Owners of California Endorses Simon
Simon Running up the Score on Key Conservative Endorsement
FRESNO - Adding to a string of conservative endorsements, Gun Owners of California endorsed GOP gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon today at a press conference in Fresno.
"Bill Simon has a keen understanding of the 2nd Amendment, and will be a friend to California's law-abiding gun owners," said Executive Director Sam Paredes. "We are proud to endorse Bill Simon for Governor."
"I support a moratorium on new gun legislation," said Simon. "Some of the laws we have on the books are unenforceable and do nothing to reduce crime. It is time for the politicians to stop harassing law abiding gun owners, and instead do more to go after the criminals."
"As a former federal prosecutor, I understand that we should be focused on keeping guns out of the hands of criminals," said Simon. "I have been endorsed by the California Organization of Police and Sheriffs because they know I will help to help them protect California families from the real criminals."
Simon has also received the highest possible rating he could receive from the National Rifle Association - a solid "A".
The GOA endorsement follows a string of conservative endorsements such as Howard Jarvis' Taxpayers Association, the California Tax Limitation Committee, the California Pro Life Council, the California Republican Assembly and the California College Republicans.
"The list of supporters just keeps growing and growing," said Sal Russo, Simon's consultant.
Simon's campaign highlighted the endorsement at events today in Fresno and Chico.

This is a surprise since it was Bill Jones who was endorsed by the NRA. Go figure. (Riordan always gets an "F" on this issue.) For victory & freedom!!!

Shouldn't be a surprise; GOA is focused.

GET OUTTA THE RACE BILL JONES, AND LET SIMON KICK DAVIS' BEHIND!

(Riordan always gets an "F" on this issue.) That's putting it mildly ;) (isn't Hizzoner the guy who suggested 'door to door' searches in Los Angeles?) Yup, that's the guy.
I'm sorry we can't agree on who to support this March, but at least we can agree on who to oppose! This is going to be close, but I think that the momentum will carry Simon over the top. After he's governor, we can all work to get Mr. Jones elected to Sen. Boxer's seat. Now, wouldn't that be grand?

Let's get rid of that RINO and then go after the Rats in the U.S Senate later. First things first.

Unfortunately Jones is staying in the race until he's dragged kicking and screaming.
But I say let him waste his time and money. Contrary to other FReepers fears I seriously doubt he'll split the conservative vote. He doesn't have any endorsements or ability to raise money other than the fact he's the highest ranking Republican in CA, and he has the incompetent, somewhat nasty attitude that doomed Lundgren and Fong.
IMO Simon is a throwback to Reagan when he ran for CA Governor. I don't think he'll let the Rats define him or force him to move leftward, he's very principled and in control.

As a Republican, there isn't any issue that renders a candidate unsupportable as an anti-second amendment position. Riordan lost my vote for any office, a long time ago.

The funny thing is Richard Riordan sent me a letter that came in the mail today pleading me for a contribution to help him defeat Gray Davis in November. He's done nothing to show he cares about the issues I care about and now he wants help from a loyal Republican like me. I went ahead and promptly trashed the letter even though it said "Gray Davis hopes you'll throw this letter away." First time in my life I've agreed with Gray Davis there's something worth throwing away. You won't get my vote or a dime out of me. Now Dickie Pooh scam and get the hell of out of my party while the going is good.

Jones only got the endorsement because he has a record- the NRA rules do not allow an A+ rating for non-incumbents. However, this same record is what makes Jones the LAST place cadidate in polls (and second to Simon in conservatives' preference) since Bill Jones raised taxes, will consider state funding for abortion, and abandoned Bush for McCain after New Hampshire. Let Bill Jones talk about his record all he wants- it sucks.

The NRA is at an all time high of 4 million + members (thanks you clinton/gore), the GOA has 50,000 or so hard core, no compromise members. I also belong to both as well as the JPFO , each has their own lobbyists and contacts and specialties.

Bill Jones was the author of "three strikes"! Mike Reynolds, the guy whose family member was murdered and which prompted the need for "three strikes", is Bill Jones' biggest supporter. For victory & freedom!!!
