GWB "Holding Cards Close to Vest"

Fellow FReepers,

I seem to remember a recent phrase from W that he would "hold the cards (war options) close to his vest."

Does anyone else remember this?

I'm trying to map a letter that I sent on 02/09/02 to W to this statement. If I'm correct, then I'd say that some of our mail is effective, and actually pushes up to W.

Following is what I sent to W:

Dear Mr. President,

At the Olympic ceremonies this evening, you again, displayed that you are a gracious man. A man who loves his country. Thank you, Sir.

Please "stay the course" and do not allow others to distract you from your goals in defeating terrorism on this planet. You have developed a sensational Team of advisors and strategic personnel in winning our war overseas and at home.

Hold your cards close to your vest, keep kicking logistical butt, allow Rummy to work with Colin, and Condie. All of this will come together. If you need to take your senior staff, "behind the woodshed," so be it. Please make certain that the delivery to the public speaks with One Voice.

There are a few million of us old timers who love and respect what you are doing. Please do not let us down by allowing Daschle and Gephardt compromise your mission. If my Dad were alive (he played golf with your Dad in AZ about 6 years ago) he would have exemplified the Bush / Reagan doctrine that you have adopted. America comes first in defending American freedom, and World Freedom.

On a different note, I'd ask Veep Cheney to explain the "Guns" dividend. The butter has gone to military ordnance suppliers. Job creation and surrounding population supporting these industries. These are war dividends that few realize in contributing to the USA economy. I believe in a peace economic community, however, the peacetime economy should be balanced with a wartime economy. We are at war, and most of us understand this. A deficit is inconsequential if there are more threats to our country. I would press this concept.

I'd get some of your economic guys to digest the numbers, and feed the results to Ari. Fleicher is a good man. He needs a little more "Rummy" spine in dealing with the media.

God Bless you, Sir!. and God Bless America (I only hope that you will ever see this note).

Keep the faith, Mr. President

Warmest regards,

Mark and Karen Davis Tomkins Cove, NY

I like Dubya but if CFR passes and he doesn't veto it that will change.
