George Washington's Farewell Address

For the text, Washington's Farewell Address.

TOPICS: Announcements; Constitution/Conservatism
KEYWORDS:
Two hundred and seventy years ago, the greatest American was born. In his youth, he is reputed to have been the uncrowned boxing champion of the Colonies. Jefferson described him at his death, as the greatest horseman of his age. In brief, he was a man among men, in the most virile period of our history. But he was so much more than that.

When America needed a General for her fledgling Army, he was there. "First in War."

When the fledgling Government, under the new Constitution, needed a President, who could give it credibility, he was there. "First in Peace."

And for the next 140 or so years, he always remained "First in the Hearts of his Countrymen." If he has ceased to be such since the corrupting influence of the New Deal, and the loathesome politics before principle of most politicians in both parties since that era, it is a profound loss for all of us.

Washington was the one, pure uncorrupted statesman. His integrity was absolute. His devotion to those he served, unswerving and uncompromised.

Please take a few minutes on this solemn day--no longer a National Holiday in a corrupt and demoralized era--but far more significant than most days that are--and read Washington's parting admonitions to our people. His wisdom is as applicable today, in every respect, as it was when he presented his famous Farewell address. It used to be read in American schools, at this time of year. But now they are too busy peddling a despicable new dogma. The link is above.

Families with children should print it out, and use it as a valid way to teach those children about the real America, as delineated by the truest American of us all.

This address really does contain an answer to most of the antics of modern Liberal politicians. Washington was the perfect antithesis of Bill Clinton.

I agree. It is applicable to today as much as it was then, if not moreso. A wise word for the future. Washington had wisdom.

Easy to see why they don't want ole George to be taught in the schools, we've ignored everything the man said.

And we pay a terrible price for doing so. Washington was the one American Statesman, who never had an axe to grind. His was a pure devotion to decency and duty.

Of all the presidents, Washington was the greatist because he refused the crown.

NaW.
(Bill Clinton, on the other hand, wanted another term soooooo bad...)

Washington was a man who served, rather than sought advantage. As I said, above, he was the absolute antithesis of Bill Clinton.

After you read Washington's Farewell Address, you can link on his views on other subjects at the web site. His thoughts are prominent in the articles on such subjects as the Right and Duty To Keep & Bear Arms, and on Immigration, etc..
