interesting collection. i disagree with the rank of nbc (though their coverage was quite rank)
they didn't get anywhere near medal status, but they made their bucks.
oh well... at least some deserve it...
if you were pinged to this reply, you are on the SL 2002 Olympics ping list.
If you would like to be removed from or added to this list, please FReepmail me.

Disagree with the "nicest moment." The nicest moment, of course, was when Sarah Hughes found out she won gold.
The biggest hype was Apolo. There were others who were classier, estblished world records, and won more metals.
Most blatantly outrageous act was depriving the Lithuanian ice dancers of a medal. Had they been Canadians, the results would have been changed in the blink of an eye. This once again indicated that ice dancing has no place in the Olympics.
For whining, I agree there was no topping Gretsky and the Russians. As for Canadians, they set the stage for whining during the last Olympics, demanding that their drugged up athlete get a medal -- which he did.

Biggest upsets by come-out-of-nowhere underdogs: Gold: Sarah Hughes (USA), Figure Skating
Silver: Simon Ammann (Switzerland), Ski Jump
Bronze: Alisa Camplin (Australia), Freestyle Skiing
To: Stefan Stackhouse
Another upset was Autralia's first gold medal winner ever in Winter games, the guy who in speed skating.

I give the Gold to Gretzkey, well ahead of the Russians. Why?
He raged at the American propaganda machine, only days after the American propaganda machine ensured the Candadians got a Gold Medal in Pairs figure skating(albeit deserved). Thats hard to top even by the commisar acting Russians.

Another upset was Autralia's first gold medal winner ever in Winter games, the guy who in speed skating. Yes, but apparently in speed skating ANYTHING can happen. It is almost unheard of, evidently, for the favorite to get in front, stay in front, and win without incident.

I agree. Also, agree with #8.

Hair: Skeleton gold medal winner Tristan Gale and her braided, multicolored 'do, right. Tristan Gale had her hair dyed red, white, and blue right before the Olympics. I know because Weenie Dimmer of KSL's Eyewitness News showed it to us on the late pre-Olympics show one evening...

Didn't one of the snowboarders want to be on a box of Count Chocula? That was the high point of the games for me.

Note to NBC: Next Olympics in Greece, Send Costas to Italy. (Better yet, give the other networks a chance. In the past Rune Arledge & Company did a better job)

Did the REAL Jim Shea write this, and write about his mom, or does the author merely share his name ?? (P.S. I saw Jim kissing his medal on top of the Budweiser Clydesdale Wagon in Park City last weekend. Pretty cool stuff -- he seemed like a class guy).

having lived 50 years with my last name falling at the end of the alphabet,
maybe i'm aware of something, all other things being equal, that has escaped your first impression.
or, you may want to think there was an intentional disrespect intended by the list - that's your prerogatrive.
foil on, shields up.

Sure could be, but isn't that the official Olympic site where most people would look for info? they are listed in alphabetical order when the total medals are equal. that is how the page is displayed.
was it an intentional snub by the designer? programmer? sloc? ioc? i doubt it.
apparently, the list is based on total medals. if the total is equal, they go alphabetical.
look at france, then china. that's how it's put together. is it right? dunno.
