Queen Ralph?

That's not a nice thing to say. I mean, just because she's plain and homely...

When my father died, he was buried in Maryville. The funeral date corresponded with a UT football game, and we had to stay in some dive Comfort In. (Frankly we were lucky to find any hotel accomodations at all. )

Although we had a little wet bar in the room, my husband had to drive to the next county to buy a corkscrew! The hotel was not allowed to provide one.

Tennesee Bob - One of my late great-grandfathers was from Maryville. He came to California with his wife and young children about 1900. My grandfather used to refer to his cousins in Tennessee as being in "Marah-ville" (rhymes with Sarah). I been back through that part of the country a couple of times. The hill country on the flanks of the Smokies is particularly beautiful.

Nice job of research. There had been discussion in 1936 of a "morganatic" marriage (one in which the children, if any, would not be considered royal.

By 1934 the affair between Edward, Prince of Wales, and Mrs. Wallis Warfield Simpson (born 1896) was in full bloom. So the timing of the "pretender's" birth is about right, but DNA would solve this controversy soon enough.

For more than a few years there has been a downtown storefront in Maryville that displayed a pretty good deal of info and proof(?) about this womans claims. It is very interesting and well laid out. She is not looking for claim to the throne, only verification and recognition from the royal family that she is who she says she is. I believe her, but that and 3.50 will get you a cup of mocha latte. BTW, the fact that Maryville is no longer dry is no reason to celebrate. Wait until the DUI's start going up and it may not look like such a wise move. It's just another revenue stream for local gov't, and they'll find a way to waste it. Mayrville and Blount Co. are soon to home for 2 ex-governors. No wonder all the new roads out that way!

...the children of Elizabeth II have all married commoners

I don't know about the others, but for Charles, the only one that matters, this is not true. Diana was from a noble line. (I know, she was a common tramp, but her lineage was determined to be suitable.)

I keep hearing rumors that Wallace Simpson was a man. Seriously.

To me she looked like a man. Her name is manly. People said she walked like a man.

Wow. Those photos are pretty weird! Although one of the sons pictured is clearly trying to look like Prince Albert, stylized sideburns and all, most of the rest are clear and strong resemblences.

There was a fairly large article written by Frank Munger (actually several articles) about the desktop fusion. He's the science writer for the Knoxville News Sentinel, and he's in pretty tight with the folks at ORNL and the other facilities...I'll have to see what I can find.
